Electronic Arts sends along a new retail patch for Battlefield 2142, bringing the recent futuristic multiplayer 3D action game by Digital Illusions to version 1.05. This release addresses nearly two dozen gameplay, GUI, multiplayer and other issues as outlined in the patch notes, and it's accompanied by corresponding Unranked dedicated servers v1.05.21.0 in the usual Win32 and Linux flavors.

- Patching update message will shut the game down instead of minimize if EA Link is installed on users machine

- Titan no longer moveable by the Commander once Titan shields are down
- Installer checks for BF2142 running in the background before installing patch

You may experiance a crash to desktop at the end of titan maps. Some say pressing ESC before the titan explodes stops the crash to desktop.

Don't install 1.05! It has conflictions with base ati and nvidia drivers so the problem even carries over to Omega users. The game crashes to desktop either when the Titan blows up or for no reason at all. I had a ctd from just hitting the tab button to configure my weapons. The support pages are flooded with questions but I'll tell you what most of us are doing:

A) If you haven't installed 1.05 you're okay. Most server owners have figured out that we all have to roll back to 1.01 and have done so. That is why you will see many red servers if you have patched to 1.05.

B)If you patched to 1.05, uninstall and re-install with ONLY patch 1.01 that came out before the game did. Then you can resume crashless gaming until ea's next catastrophy.

It is ridiculous that once they get all the problems with ea downloader and ea link (brilliant decision #586755323) and the people who couldn't play because of other errors fixed THEN they put out a patch that ruins the downloader copies as well as the dvd copies the smart people bought. They had no issues until todays' patch. I know 3 people who have already recieved a full refund for the game. It's like they expect everyone to understand editing registries and running the game in compatibility mode for windows2000 are just minor adjustments to make their product work properly.

Thanks for that info. I had not heard that. Does it just come back after hitting esc again? Or do you mean just logging out before it crashes? - thanks!
