Free Trial of WOW
Yesterday at Thanksgiving dinner my brother handed me a disk. It's a free trial of WOW. I'm not a huge RPG, RTS, whatever you call it player. I'm just getting in to AOE 3 right now. My question is, is it even worth myself trying it out? Is it really that good? I don't want to start paying then some one comes along, and kicks my ass. Is the single player really that enjoyable?

Well, unless you play on a Player vs. Player server, nobody can come along and kick your ass, unless you manually switch on your pvp flag and become hostile to the other faction. Even on a PvP server, it's a pretty good while before you venture out into hostile territory anyway, so not much to worry about there.
And with WoW being a MMORPG, there technically is no single player. There are always others around, whether friendly or not. Granted, you can choose to never group up with anyone, but you'd be missing a lot of the game. I hear the trial version is extremely limited in gameplay now though, not letting you chat, quest, and probably not group up with anyone, so don't consider that to be what the actual game is like.
Anyway, I'll end by saying WoW is certainly one of the most enjoyable and addictive games I've ever played. Definitely try it out, but if you like it, prepare to be hooked for a long long time

Why not? It's a free trial. If you play alot of MMO then I think you might like WoW.

You can not trade with other players during the free trial though, so you have to be preaty self suficient.

I'd say yes, but my problem and why I'm not buying WoW is that I'm thinkin' I'll like it too damn much and it'll take up too much of my time....lol

I'm so tempted to try, but if I believe you should hold off on it if you have other obligations such as school, significant other and/or your life. It's a great game, but I know myself and I will be so hooked on it if I dove into it.
P.S - They require you to input your credit card for the trial...making it oh so much easier for you to press the 'Submit' and "I agree" buttons when they ask if you would like to start paying for it

Hmm well I might give it a run go. However, it seems rather strange to limit a trial for a game they want you to pay for. One thing that is holding me back is the trial says you have to purchase the full game "after" the trial. That is my whole problem with this; I think the game price should quite a bit less.

my only thing with MMOs is that the game itself should be free to d/l and only have to pay the montly fee, or just have to pay for the game itself and not have to pay any kind of monthly fee. that is the reason why i don't play any kind of MMOs

It's a matter of principle. For expansions, and what not I understand having to pay for those. It would be like having buy windows, then having to pay a fee every month for using it.

The WoW beta was fun but I would never pay more than $9.99 a month to play any game online. WoW should also be available as a free download and then pay to play.

erg.. tried a trial of WoW... utterly hated it... some people say it's because of teh graphics... no.. i actually like the graphics.. suits everything warcraft is... but the gameplay.. imo, just sucked.
Lineage2 is good, but there is so many issues that they gotta resolve.
Other games out there, but so far, i only find lineage2 worth playing at any time.. it's so realistic in terms of people being able to do anything they want. There true nature is seen....

I like the idea of being able to do whatever I want to do. I love to explore in games, and look at every nook & cranny. It's some thing I even do in FPS's.

Well lineage2, lets you, if you want to, kill anything that can be killed. (hell even try and kill creatures your saposed to be doing a quest for, course they might be higher lvl.. but you can try ).. you can kill guards.... might difficult... you can kill your own party members/own clan members/own alliance members. You can go to arena and just screw around without worry of losing anything, you could load up and emediately starting pking anyone be it newbs or attempt to try and kill higher lvls to steal there armor/weapons. You can agro a ton of mobs, and train people, faking death right at there feet, through every mob onto the poor people.
You can do alot, but there are some serious problems with the game. But then again, there are a serious amount of problems with every game. (lineage2 every 8-10 months gets a full blown free update)
You can with lineage2 though, go to a store, buy the DVD version (15 bucks?) and get online for 30 days to try. If you buy from a store that allows you to get a refund after so many days, you can trial for that period, then bring the game back and get a refund. Every additionally month is 15 bucks i beleive.
There are usually at least one event each month. These events can be a riot...
Seiges, seiging a castle with 100-200 of your fellow alliance members, fighting to take a castle with say another 5+ other alliances all fighting for it, and usually just as many other alliances defending it. (you do the math, 10 alliances say all having 100-200+ players).... and that's just one castle. There are several castles.
Fights over clan halls even.
ATM i play on seigheat. BUT, i think i'm just going to play on the PTS all the time now, now only does the PTS get the new expansion first, but you can lvl quicker, downside is every time a new expansion comes out, the server is wiped of all the characters. however, advantage is that you get serveral times more drops/xp/lvling/you name it. So for the time it would take to do something on the pts.. it would take probably 100-1000 times longer on an official server.

One thing that's different about WoW is that the grind (killing things over and over for experience) isn't as annoying as other MMO's. Most other MMO's will force you to kill stupid things like rabbits and mice to gain a very small amount of exp, and worse, these rabbits can kill you over and over. Then when you think you've become strong enough, you'll encounter a different colored rabbit that's 10x more powerful. It's just stupid. The rate of progression in WoW feels a whole lot faster so you feel like you're actually getting something done.

lineage 2 sounds like crap, lil immature kiddies who pk and do what you talk about make the game not so fun
sounds like Diablo 2 all over again
The questing in WoW is great, I like the fact it sends you places and you have to do some thinking sometimes... i know wal-mart.com had WoW for $30

Lineage2 allows you to do what you wish, there are multiple servers you can choose from. Course, you'll always at some point run into a jerk, but hey, that's the way realality is. perhaps you had a bad day, feel like going red awhile? Reds have major disadvantaged, you go and pk something, your going to have a mob of whites (people that haven't pked) all chasing you down to kill you for whatever you might drop.
And as for the XPing, since the C3, it's excellent. You can tell which enemies you probably shouldn't even think about soloing or douing. (up to 9 people in a party). And it'll show you which mobs you kill easily and get nill XP for.
They are easily color coded: Red being 10+ lvls higher, pink being 6-10, gold being 3-6, white give or take 3lvls, green 3-6 lvls lower, light blue, 6-10 and dark blue... 10+ lvls lower then you. Fairly simple.
Alot of hunting grounds are setup so that you can easily go from one set of mobs to the next without major differences. And, soloing, the first 52 lvls you can make some pretty impressive leaps and bounds in lvling. Serveral lvls a day when you get used to it, figure out the hunting grounds your at, know your mobs, and your own abilities.
Deverse is lineage2. I think there 38+ different classes you can be, and within a short period of time, C4 will be out and another set of classes availble.
Elf/Dark Elf/Orc/Human/Dwarf are the current species.
Quests, omg, so many quests it's not even funny.

Sry but I played L2 for bout 4 months, and holyyyyyy crap did I hate it.
I eventually got sick of how rediculessly long it takes to regen when your leveling, and the ungodful amounts of bots all over the place.
I got into WoW a couple months later and have been playing it for almost a year now.
you either hate it or love it.
