F.E.A.R. Optimization
Now I've read a lot about people complaining of the poor optimization for F.E.A.R. I wasn't worried though, because the demo ran just fine on my computer (most settings on medium, about 35 to 50 fps). However, with the retail 1.1 game, I cannot get above 20 fps no matter HOW low I set the settings (640 by 480 with everything on low, still wouldn't go above 22 fps). I just updated to the Catalyst 5.10's today...does anyone know if they decimate frames for this game? My sheer excitement has turned into disappointment, and now frustration.

The 5.9's do the same thing. Just to make sure I wasn't crazy, I loaded the demo back up, and with all settings on either medium or maximum (except volumetric lighting) i got around 40 fps. With everything on minimum, I still cannot break the 22 fps barrier on the retail version. Has anyone heard anything about this problem and how to fix it?

6800GT 80.40 drivers, most settings on high, some on medium, 4aa 4af.
There is a reason at the begining it says 'Nvidia, THE WAY ITS MEANT TO BE PLAYED'

If it is like that I'd be disaapointed, this is the peak
I saw on the MP demowas 234FPS but it wa always
over 130 FPS @1024X768 and higher then default settings
X800XL ,
also the SP demo played geat every all the way up
with AA and AF. But then again those where done
before it was "MEANT TO BE PLAYED"
If its changed I wont be very pleased with the game maker....

Blargh, after 5 hours of messing around, problem solved. I had Symantec AntiVirus running in the background...and apparently that murders F.E.A.R. Once I turned it off, the game ran smooth as ever. Still kind of irratating to disconnect from the internet and turn off Symantec everytime I want to play, though. Oh well, if anyone else has that problem, that's how to fix it.

Yeah, symantic murders everything. Its a bigger system hog than probably F.E.A.R. itself.

I'd believe WIMTBP more if you had that set on computer High...
Anyway. I can run the game in maximum texture mode on a 128mb card. The only texture that will kill your card is one star sky texture. Which only appears for one or two 'areas'.
Everything on maximum except texture(for reason stated above) and soft shadows off (due to it being nvidia tech)and I sit at a comfortable 30fps. Pretty snazzy for a 9800Pro. Though I like to put a few things down to medium so my system can run Adaptive AA. Makes the game look great.
I doubt there will bee too many tweak guides for this game as it runs so well.

hey dude, no reason for harsh comments. just asking a question to obtain some feedback. I'm sure you'd do the same when Lost Coast comes out

and for comparison sake... everything max, soft shadows on (barly any performance dif. with it on or off so i just left it on) 2xaa 16xaf (performed worse with lower AF)

Actually, according to lots of benchies nVidia excels at Lost Coast...especially thanks to the 16FP and 32FP optimizations, SM3.0, etc...
