Torn: F.E.A.R. or Quake 4

I have 60 bucks in my Wallet and can't decide.

I want to buy F.E.A.R. but sounds like by the time they fix the bugs I would be able to buy Quake. I have to decide tonight cause I'm goin to EB tomorrow.

They both seem good but not one good enough to turn me away from the other.

Any advice? Or any comments.

as for QUAKE4 it looks like a doom 3 clone that we have all played before.

I just want it to work, cause my Single and multi both don't seem to be workin and it won'y let me go up over a certain res.

Both of the games are short and the story lines do not evolve and leave stuff out. Quake 4 does not have bots for the mutliplayer and from reports it is also a 10 hr game. My suggestion? .... Borrow fear from a friend and beat it over night to get it out of your system. Load up doom III and relize that in quake 4, you are playing doom III with a little bit of a differnt story (lol).

Save yer money for a game that is worth it. Did you like halflife 2? The expansion is comeing at the end of the month.

if you want a game that is actually finished and functional, go with Quake.

Yeah I rushed out to pick up my copy of F.E.A.R. and this is what happened.

#1 my disk 5 was warped (that is the play disk)
#2 The game is more laggy than the demo's
#3 The highest display resolution it gives me is 1024 x 786
#4 when I set it to 2x AA the game crashes and I cannot play it (I will probably have to re-install the whole thing again just to have it crash later.
#5 VU is completely no help at all.
#6 this is probably the worst way I have spent 50 bucks.

Edit: It also says that the recommened for pretty much both CPU and Video is medium (Laugh). If I can't get this to work I am returning it and buying Quake 4, this is the worst experience I have ever had with a game

sry bout the luk dood, tough break, i got 1280*960 as an option with mine but i play at 1024*768, did auto detect and most were on max, with a cpl on med, 0 aa 4 af, i only bumped up the aa to 2 and messed a lil with tray tools toys and such and im gettin 66% in the top range of FPS in the test and the other 33% above, 40 i believe it was for the middle braket

btw guys, the HL2 expansion is aftermath and the loast coast is only 1 level, for about 15 mins of play to show off new lighting techniques and advancements in the source engine

K got it up and running (after beating it into submission) and man this game is great.

I got ambushed on this one level because I thought they had only had a few guys, I rushed forward guns blazing only to be met head on by by the back up team who had one of those guys with armor so I sprayed and rushed back and the other half of the team flanked me, so I just ran as far away as I could while spraying behind me. I used 10 health packs : ( but I lived. This game is awsome guys, I noticed bodies don't disappear, I went around in a circle about 5 times because I always came to a room with a bunch of guys nailed to walls. Only after the 5th time jumping down and running all the way around did I realize I nailed em to the wall earlier in the game.

I think this game is worth buying and probably gunna be better than quake, despite its kind of blandness I think the AI and story truelly makes up for it. If the would have changed the surroundings too muc hthen it would not be the same game. I'm wishin for an expansion that is some type of jungle warfare or something different.

Its actually driver issues, Nvidia is not even close to fully optimizing the 7800GTX and seems like when they release some soon.

It's good its not all the games fault though the resolutions are kinda weird and it still will not let me go any higher. Maybe its because I'm using my DVI instead of VGA with adapter, dunno, I'm things will be good soon for the game, and I'm not gunna buy Quake 4. I'll wait for Quake Wars.

may just do that, a friedn of mine was "getting" a copy of F.E.A.R. for me, and since this one has a warped disk I could return it to EB and buy Quake 4 with the money.
