Judge sentences gamer to death

20-year-old who used Grand Theft Auto as defense for triple homicide sentenced to lethal injection.

Earlier this year, Devin Moore, now 20, was on trial for the 2003 triple homicide of three Alabama policemen. While in detention for stealing a car, Moore grabbed the pistol of one officer and used it to fatally shoot a total of three of them.

The defense mounted a case based on a childhood full of mental and physical abuse, as well as an affinity for violent games. One game in particular, Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto III, was singled out, because gamers can steal cars and kill cops in it. Moore had said he was inspired by the PlayStation 2 game.

In August, a jury swiftly convicted Moore of the charges. And today, a judge laid down the most severe punishment the justice system allows.

Moore will be put to death by lethal injection. Defense attorney Jim Standridge will appeal the case.

The victims' families have sued Take-Two Interactive (parent company of Rockstar), Sony, Wal-Mart, and GameStop for their parts in the manufacturing and selling of the game.

Well atleast the judge isn't an idiot, I would have done the same, but if he had just said it was his fault, then I probably wouldn't have done capital. But come on blaming a video game? That alone deserves capital punishment.

They wore the insanity plea out, so now they have to use the "well it's not my fault" plea.

As for people being sue happy, this is why I get sick of ignorance. Blame always takes the wrong ones. I have no sympathy for stupidity, therefore, I have no sympathy for the victim's families.

There's no defence for murder, let alone 3 murders. It's ashame we have to have human rights for people like that, they're not human, they shouldn't be allowed to die in such an manor. It should last weeks of slow agonising pain. But yeah yeah I know.. it's not allowed, because apparently there gene makeup still suggests they're human. Pfff...

notic nobody ever blames rape or prostitution on GTA...it's only when the shit REALLY hits the fan that they pull out the scape goat du jour.

I think they should run this idiot over with the car he stole and give the cop's families the gun he used to kill them with and see what happens.

and as for blaming GTA.....take2 should just put a Jackass style warning on the game: all acts of violence caried out and/or supervised by digitized professionals, take 2, rockstar, and it's subsidiaries must insist that you not try to recreate or re-enact any ofthis at home. no animals were harmed in the making of this game....except sparky, but that car chasing flea bag had it coming.

I dont think it's the game's fault that this young man has a severe problem. He should definitely be confined somewhere, at the least. Though I'm not saying this young man doesnt deserve the death penalty; I am saying it is a hard decision to make that call to me.

that evil horrible game it damageg my brain and set the tone of my life.See how stupid that sounds.I can't beleive the defense would present that as it's argument.Did the insurgents have atari2600's?.This is exactly how big brother is going to control the internet,with stupid judges+cases like these.Look at how many of our civil right's we have LOST since9/11 in the cause of homeland security.

FIGHT with E-mails to your elected officials to keep the internet open to everyone with no restrictions.
