hahahaha sweet!

I happen to have x800 XL, omega5.6 and get stuttering so can't wait to try this out

EDIT: It definately does work it was much smoother almost no stuttering at all after the first 5 seconds of spawning. Im gonna turn on shadows and see if it still takes a big performance hit.

Stop OCing your CPU. For some reason, that did the trick on making my textures fixed. I have absolutely no idea why, but it did.

I am running my current rig with no overclocks to speak of, though I'm glad its worked for you and I hope it works for a bunch of other people. If all games were doing what BF2 was doing I'd assume the ram chips were fried.

It seems to be just crummy coding from DICE in general though. ATI cards are not the only ones running into trouble/bad performance. They just seem to be the most vocal (Or more prevalent).

why dont they confirm a FEAR stutter fix aswell :o
becuse clearly there is one as nvidia people dont get the stutters when ever they go around corners.

i know its a beta but there is a fault with the fear demo and ati cards VU confirmed on there forums that ati needs to patch something.

Everywhere I look, they all say to set your AGP Aperture size to 256mb but that causes a laut of blank screen windows boot ups for me.

System Specs

In regards to latency and stuttering thier just rediscoveing what already
been known for a long time.

By lowing the latency thier lowing the amount buss time the video card
can hog the system BUSS before it has to release it to other devices.
So when a device is given more time usealy it performes better. But if you
got a bloody ton of devices it can be probematic. By default on AGP ati is set
to a high value like "255" on PCI express "32"

Quote:
This feature controls how long a PCI device can hold the PCI bus before another takes over. The longer the latency, the longer the PCI device can retain control of the bus before handing it over to another PCI device.

Normally, the PCI Latency Timer is set to 32 cycles. This means the active PCI device has to complete its transactions within 32 clock cycles or hand it over to the next PCI device.

For better PCI performance, a longer latency should be used. Try increasing it to 64 cycles or even 128 cycles. The optimal value for every system is different. You should benchmark your PCI cards' performance after each change to determine the optimal PCI latency time for your system.

Please note that a longer PCI latency isn't necessarily better. A long latency can also reduce performance as the other PCI devices queuing up may be stalled for too long. This is especially true with systems with many PCI devices or PCI devices that continuously write short bursts of data to the PCI bus. Such systems would work better with shorter PCI latencies as they allow rapid access to the PCI bus.

In addition, some time-critical PCI devices may not agree with a long latency. Such devices require priority access to the PCI bus which may not be possible if the PCI bus is held up by another device for a long period. In such cases, it is recommended that you keep to the default PCI latency of 32 cycles.
old thread on changeing it here as well as how to modify the ati INF
Lower Your graphics card latency
note AGP uses the PCI timer and shares some resouces with the 1st PCI slot

Also
Others find that uping thier AGP apiture size helps and other common possable "fixes".

That fix isn't from ATI for one, For two BF2 is a EA games release.

ATI and nvidia needs to fix things it couldn't be thier FEAR game! Oh noes1111!
(in thier big list of game bugs that they need to resolve).... Always take it
with a grain of salt when they claim that. Some time thier right other times
thier just blowing hot air. Always point the finger at someone else until it can be
proved other wise. In regards to "ati needs to patch something" game makers
make patches graphics company's make drivers.

I'm not denying there maybe ATI & nvidia issues. You have to wait and see
what the full version of the game is like. Demo's are more and more becomeing
"public betas" to fish out bugs missed by them and for everyone else to try to adress
before the full titles release. Hard to know who to blame for what. It's sad that most
companies refuse to fix & patch their demos to the latest version. It many of times
the graphics makers are blamed and then the issues are later resolved with game
patche(s) . The demo is 1.0 wait and see the full version will be like "1.1..." or
"1.2...", one or two magor builds later then the public demo release. The demo was
really really short wich should tell you something right there.

I'd just hope they don't build in advertiseing after since its "VU" who just started that
crap in other titles. lets also hope the game maker is actively working togeather with the
graphics companys to get the issues resolved. Insted of just going its "not our problem" like some comany's have. It their game, it affects those who will buy thier game I'd say
it there problem too. Not all things can be fixed via the drivers either sometimes it take
co operation with the game maker.

As for getting back to the opic of BF2 Were still waiting for the magor 1.3 patch wich
may finally get me more more inclined to actually buy the title.

Does this fix also work with the Omega 5.7's?

is it true that when u set the audio to hardware instead of software if u have a off board sound card it should increase the perfomace of the game?? and does eax slow down the game??

Hardware audio takes a load off and can boost FPS substatially.

EAX puts a hevey load on the system it gives you better audio
but it will cost you some FPS.
