Area 51 Demo
Midway has released a single-player demo for Area 51, offering the first opportunity to determine whether "the truth is out there" in this sci-fi first-person shooter that has a lead character voiced by David Duchovny. This humongous download contains an extensive cinematic introduction and a portion of the full where the player has lost his team and continues to explore alone.

That's probably only 1/8 of the size of the entire game, if that. My Doom3 folder is up to about 6.4GB...

After playing it a bit I'm a bit let down with the graphics. I can let go that some of them are streached and washed out in the maps, but not on the guns.
Even a low poly gun can be incredibly convincing with the right textures. I mean, these things are right up close and you see them all the time. It's not so bad when your playing a 3rd person game, but 1st person games require a bit of detail on things that you have to look at all the time. I find it just sloppy, and it really sticks out.
Graphics need work but the atmosphere is good. So I'll buy it.

Crappy textures? What video card/ and settings in game and in the GFX card control panel are you using?

Well, compared to the original Area 51 port for PC (remember the arcade game?) I give this game a 1000%. As a modern FPS, it's fairly decent... better than a lot of other games in my opinion (Has anyone managed to get their hands on Firestarter? It's so horribly, hopelessly, abyssmally bad it's good).

Going to finally install it now.. By the sounds of it it's nothing special.. what did you think of the controls? Is it a simple control scheme? (better) Or a one button for every single action scheme? (horrible, like America's Army)
EDIT
Yeah the textures were a little bland- hope they are better when released.
An ok game though, definitely missing some options- antialiasing didn't do anything to the guns, etc.. crazy bloom affect going on.
It also needs a serious FOV adjustment- feel like I am looking through binoculars. When it comes out it might be ok though, I wanted to keep playing for sure.
