Why would you want to use a controller for CS or U2k4? If you must, I would go with the Logitech Rumblepad 2 in either the cordless or corded variety.

I wouldnt recomend any controllers for PC first person shooters. Think about it you would have to use one stick to walk, and the other stick to look/aim while at the same time trying to hit buttons to shoot and such. Unless you have 3 hands I would stick w/ the keyboard / mouse. For sports games or some other games, I would highly reccomend a Playstation 1/2 to USB adapter. You can get them at radioshack or other places for around $10 w/ vibration drivers. I bought a used PS1 controller for $5 and it still works well, but I went out and bought a new dual shock PS2 controller. I have also tried a logitec dual action (piece of junk very cheaply made in my opinion) broke w/ in a yr w/ only moderate use, a GE Recoil pad from walmart (this one is very sturdy and works well except for EA sports games).

Logitech Rumblepad 2 is very good. If you don't need the rumble thing, then you can get the logitech dual action for cheaper price.

all of the ms sidewinder series controllers are really well made and work great with any game that supports it.BUT,like others will tell you there is no way to confgure the buttons so you can be competitive in play.it is to much work to move an shoot and jump.even if you got those working you will still have to use the keyboard for the other 50 buttons needed.gamepads work killer for games like moto gp2 and need for speed series and games like that.
peace out

I bought the logitec dual action strictly for madden 2004. I played through maybe about 2-3 seasons before it stopped working properly. What happened is the left analog stick would hit the casing of the controller before it registered being moved. I tried different slots recallibrating etc etc. I even took it apart and tried sanding out the hole around the left stick so it would have more freedom to move. That worked for a little while, but then the same thing started happening. That controller was a huge waste of money. The playstation controllers are identical to the logitec dual action, and are better made plus for like $5 you get the vibration. If you already have a PS2 controller then for $10 you can get the adapter and have a top notch PC controller.

I've used a controller for UT2k4. it works quite well. I mean if you need extreme precision against top contenders, sure get the keyboard and mouse...but most people playing UT2k4 really suck. Honestly I've never been to a server with decent players. Even the tournys are jokes.
Counter strike, you can kiss your head goodbye cause it'll get blown off.

i just use a USB/playstation adapter and use my dual shock for very few games. mainly NFSU2 and my roms. i tried it with CS once, but you needed sv_cheats enabled and i didnt feel like starting my own server to enable it.

lol true......but c'mon now, a racing game on PC would be better on a controller than any keyboard key. All racing games really need are gas and stop.

i wouldn't recommend a controller for FPS games either but if you're gonna get one anyway get a logitech! i forget what mine is called... its USB and looks like a PS2 dual shock control minus the rumbling and its totally awesome... a must have for sports games
