Playstation3 will support only 1 CPU after all ??
Yes, after all the PS3 will have only one CELL, due to cost issues, and the decision of making a GPU on PS3 by NVIDIA, is due largely to this fact : Only ONE CELL on PS3, so there is no way that this CELL could be used as a multi-purpose processor and as a GPU in the same time ! 256 GFLOPS is not sufficient to do this…gone are the days of DREAMING of a PS3 with 4 CELLS 4*256 GFLOPS = 1024 GFLOPS or 1 teraflops) with 1024 GFLOPS power, allowing the system to do all the graphics stuff plus AI, PHYSICS…
on those CELLS without any need of a GPU, and making the dream of real time ray-tracing finally possible…
Note: XBOX360 has 3 Xenon Cpus and supports MultiCPU operation

Can't wait to find out. But to be honest there's something about the xbox360, that's pulling me in regardless of what the PS3 has offer.

While sony has always had good backing from japanese developers and microsoft wasn't. The backing microsoft will get from top US developers is crazy, i saw some game videos and microsoft is bringing the smack down this time around. With games that seem to cater the hardcore and more mature of players.

it matched and beat it by a long ways in raw horse power. whats really supriseing though is how the ps3 does it with only 1 cpu, where as the 360 cant come any where near close with 3.

The new XBox and the PS3 are absolute powerhouses compared to most high end gaming PCs in any home today. Not only that, they have wireless controllers out of the box and will serve as DVD players connecting straight to your brand new HDTV (granted the XBox is 720p versus Sony's 1080p potential - but that still looks great!) - amazing.
I gotta think that a lot of PC gamers are going to rethink upgrading their video card (for 300-400 US) and just buy the console and some games, and let their already excellent PC work a while longer just as it is.
The rumoured price for the XBox is 399.00 US. Sony can't be far off that and Microsoft can afford to sell the machine for just about any price they care to as long as they sell the games. Sony is no slouch in the cash flow department either. Like printers and ink cartridges, the money is in the cartridges, and the games...

How can these consoles be so cheap? A lower end Xeon goes for $250 on newegg, so that is $750 for 3, and the XBOX360 is rumored to be $400? When you factor is the special equipment (3 CPU mobo), and other equipment like the video card, that adds up to about $400?

the console makers always take a massive price hit when they sell the consoles. all the money they make is in the games and accesories.
