Guild wars?
has anyone here played this game before (though its in beta, you gotta preorder their cds first in order to play)
well, if you dont know it yet its-> www.guildwars.com
actually if i'm not mistaken, the game devoloper came from Blizzard, they were the WC series maker but they decided to quit Blizzard and make their own game....

I have been playing since the E34E (E3 for Everyone) event and they have made a lot of changes to the game. I am really looking forward to purchasing the game once it goes retail.
Yes, the developers of this game also developed warcraft, starcraft, and the diablo series. Blizzard, if I recall correctly, was bought out and I assume that these developers did not like the changes that this brought and left the company to form arenanet.

Played it a couple of days back (7th - 9th). They had a special beta test weekend for anyone to try it out (Just had to be signed up to a site like fileplanet).
I've played World of warcraft and was a bit disappointed with Guildwars.
I was expecting to be able to run around with loads of different people, like WoW, but instead you only get to play with a max of 4 people at a time. You can talk and sell items and stuff with people in specific places but when it comes to missions or just simple adventuring, you have to limit yourself to playing with only 4 others.
Also because of this 4 player limit, the games geared towards making it vital that you have those teammates to help you. If your a casual player with little time to play, your screwed. The monsters will kick your ass when your level 10 and there still level 2...
Still it looks nice though:

Only one thing really ruined the game for me, that puts WoW far ahead of this game, is that you can't go and adventure wherever you want.
The environment has so many invisible walls and dodgy collision boxes that you always feel like your being forced in one direction...you can't even jump, so forget about hopping over that ditch to the other area beyond, nope, you gotta go on a 5 mile hike across a path full of monsters.

Yes GuildWars is not a typical MMORPG and is being marketed as a CORPG (Competitive Online Role-Playing Game) There are missions later in the game that allow you to have more than 4 players.
GuildWars is not meant to be played alone, but you can use the NPC (henchmen) and explore pretty well with them.
The reason that guildwars is instanced is to eliminate the quest lines that most MMORPG games including WoW have.
I have to agree with the invisible walls. There are a lot of them where it does not make sense to have them. You should be able to run down a hill, but I am glad that it does not allow you to run off a cliff.

You mean you don't have to pay monthly? Cool, I thought it was another one of those Pay Monthly games, they always look cool but i'm not prepared to pay £10 - £20 a month for a game, no matter how much i like it.

i find this weird.. im not sure how they plan on paying for their servers and support
but if they can do it and not suck at it, all good to me.
