1Gb is ideal, but put in 2Gb of ram, and it won't lag. It's nothing big at all, but noticable once in a while.

I got a gig of ram for christmas. 2x512mb sticks adding to my 2x256 sticks of ddr400 ram. Made hl2 and doom3 run smooth again. Im soon getting a X800 XT PE too!!
But yeah these new games use a lot of ram.

Dual channel kicks so much @$$. With a PCI-Express Video card, the possiblities for eye-candy are endless!

I just checked and Newegg has a gig of my Corsair XMS for $80 less than I paid for the first gig I bought. (dual matched pair) So your saying 2 gig is better than 1? In what way. Probably not faster but smoother? hmmmm I didn't get anything for baby this xmas

1 gig is fine for Doom3, 2 gig though works better on ultra settings. Now all we need is a game to go with the graphics, hopefully some third party developers can make something good out of the pretty engine.

yea, that's what i was trying to say. With 1Gb of ram, it'll play smooth, but with 2Gb of ram, it will play smoother.

I agree if you have the wallet for it, 2 gig is the way to go. god knows what games are going to come out in 2005 to take advantage of that. Already Doom3 and farcry play so much better with 1 gig +, wont be long before 2 gig gives enhanced options along with your new 512 meg GFX card

OMG.....imna have to get me another gig soonish. Dunno if i can shell out another $250 for that extra gig anytime soon though. Imna have to dump my p4 and go A64 for best game play too for my next big upgrade. Think they'll make 512Mb cards run in SLI in the next year?

Im sure they can already, but I doubt it would be cost effective and the market would be quite limited for that.

true, but i'm sure there are some people out there that would get that kind of hardware simply for the bragging rights.
