Men Of Valor
Ok id heard a lot of negative stuff about this game and how it sucked. so out of interest I picked up a copy today and I have to say im totally surprised at how good (so far) the whole thing is. granted I dont play online MP at all so im not sure about that but the single player game is excellent. very good graphics, some nice effects, good voice acting and again like MOHPA excellent use of 5.1 sound.
I think people nowadays are too hard to please or else im just a total sucker for vietnam in the jungle style FPS. Yes I loved vietcong too !

You wont be disappointed, im very impressed with the terrain and the AI of the guys you fight with is above the usual, they actually kill the enemy.
I love those kind of FPS - runs great with 4AA as well, I miss that from MOHPA.

I like the way you take damage, you stop yourself from bleeding otherwise you take more of a loss, but its nicely balanced as in combat hitting the key to stop bleeding is hard when trying to fight.
I like the motion blurring on explosions and the dialogue is very realistic......... one im glad I tried now after seeing some negative comments from people. Im enjoying this as much as MOHPA, more in some ways as its more realistic.

For those of you who like charging into combat ala Duke nukem this really isnt going to be your scene, you have to do quite a bit of dodging between trees and terrain etc for cover. you cant take 15 shots to the chest and live. The lean keys actually work well in this one, you can have a quick look out from behind cover, fire a few shots and retreat. some of the levels im at now are pretty hard, especially the suicidal enemy with machine gune. aleays keep a sniper rifle handy for scouting ahead

Well SOF was quite a different setting and was quite gory too, this isnt in the same gore level and its primarily set around the jungle environments, which I am a real sucker for. I love vegetation, hiding behind trees and then planning out a route up the hill without getting my ass shot off. which this has in spades. A
Both great games man but not really comparible. its a 4 discer though and for once I think its worth it. The audio is first class with 60s songs in parts, majestic orchestal tracks in key parts and some funky pan pipe sections in the villages, the graphics are really great and realistic and its certainly playable along the lines of an improved vietcong. The whole damage system works great, first time ive seen a bleed section which you can heal (stop) with bandages (or forget about and then lose more health as you run around bleeding).
Flaws would be average AI (as usual) and the fact there are the usual trigger spots but thats common ground with FPS, I also hear multiplayer sucks but I cant comment on that as I never play MP, dont get the time.
Well worth looking into, its certainly a game I think is going to be missed with MOHPA out, HL2 due out........

I tried the MP demo when it first came out - I was sincerely disappointed. The game was very lagging for me and disorienting. If you like the game, though I might have to give it another look. Is the SP demo any good at giving a proper taste of the game?

Shellshock: Nam '67 was a pretty good game as well...and I still get a thrill out of Vietcong: Purple Haze("more explosives!"). I love the fact that all the music is from that time period...and using camoflage is pretty cool. The First Alpha expansion pack fixes those jagged edges and some of the hit detection bugs as well.

Well the multiplayer in this game is not good, there are almost no servers online.
Thats a shame cause the game really has potential.
Well ill stick to the all time favourite Joint Operations - Typhoon Rising !!

Vietcong died because of support. I was playing when there was tonnes of servers. Then there were lots of server issues etc, exploits etc and people just left. They put out a patch soon after but people were already leaving and I think their population just completely died off with other games coming. I didn't mind Vietcong, but I can only deal with bush campers for so long. When you die all the time from someone who is perched in a bush kinda robs you of the fun. It'd be nice in games to list what the primary weapon is for everyone. Like UT2k4, it would show a guy who used redeemer 15 times, it would show the rocket whores etc. Basically normalize the reality of how the winner of the round got there. In VC, I am willing to bet the most proefficient players were all campers with scopes.. Men of Valor? I wasn't impressed 1 bit with the game. UT never lags for my, that game is built on UT and it stinks in performance for me.
