Found this on another forum I hope it helps,
It's punkbuster and dep if your using sp2 version of xp. Search for disabling dep or try using the system properties advanced performance settings. Click the dep button and select turn on for all except those I select then add call of duty and punkbuster. So it doesn't run when those programs are running.
You'll also need the 8.07 version driver the beta ones that fixed the memory bug from the x800 cards
Also make sure FW's are off in the BIOS, the 9800 doesn't play nice with fastwrites in most instances....

when he says FWs he means Fastwrites (jsut in case you didnt know).
and DEP is evil. At times I just disable it out of sheer spite.

Also, turn EAX sound off if you have it on. Makes games hard freeze many times.

no problems.
i think your problems are Punkbuster do not install it at all costs.

DEP= Data Exacution Prevention. Its service pack 2 protection.
EAX is Creative's enviornmental audio system for sound in games and such. does things like changes how things sound depending on where you are(like if you walk in a cave in some games, it'll start echoing all the sounds more)

To disable DEP go to start/my computer right click on my computer and click Properties, then advanced and I think it's performance, you'll see a tab that says DEP or Data Execution Prevention, and choose the program you want to exclude from DEP, like COD and PB, I don't expect most if any GAMES need that on...

No games need any of that crap...I've had so many problems with SP2. They definately outweigh the benefits you get from it.

Yeah you edit the boot.ini file and change the OS sequence to "/noexecute=alwaysoff"

okay heres what you do...
click on the start menu and hit "Run"
type in C:\boot.ini
find the string that says something like multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptOut
see where it says /NoExecute=OptOut ?
change that to just say /Execute
now hit save. It might not want to save properly, so save it to a seperate directory and then just drag and drop it into your root C:. (go to My Computer. Click C: and drop it in there. NOT IN ANY DIRECTORY!) It'll ask you to overwrite it. say yes.
There you go. Restart the computer and DEP is 100% gone.
Now just so you know...I've never heard of anyone messing this up, BUT I am not responsible if you mess up your boot file. If you break the boot file, windows may not start back up again.
That being said, it is not hard to fix that. Just pop the winXP CD back in when you turn the computer off...go to the repair console, Type HELP, and pick the boot sectory recovery. Anyway we dont need to cover that now as it wont be a problem. IF it is a problem, we'll come to that later
anyway try the thing with the boot file. It'll totally disable DEP.
