WHY do you need to install DX9 for doom3
when you install the setup program tells you it needs to install DX9 on your machine....
 why? |

yes I did it always ask me but now I know why it needs DX9, cause of the sound engine propably. since opengl is obviously used for the graphics. when somebody says DX to me all I think about is graphics not sound etc

some games say the same to me aswell its just a auto popup even if you have it installed it will do the same its just for simple people that probably dont have it installed in the first place lol and its a reminder for them

I also get the prompt to install the latest DirectX with a new game installation. It's just one of those things they build into the installer to make sure you have the latest drivers. If you say, Yes, to this prompt, it will then find out that you already have it.

Quake 2 actually would bring up the DX installer instead of the installer... quite interesting as it auto ran the dx installer.. not the game setup..
