*WARNING* LargSystemCache = TOTAL SYSTEM MELTDOWN !!!
I know I know, i have read awefull things about this tweak but i couldnt resist...i ticked it in Rage3d tweak rebooted and launcjed FarCry and i had no weapon sounds...That weird i thought..so i exited the game and what did i see??? a little icon in the task bar saying that i had a "Delayed Write Failure"...and when i clicked on it it said i lost some files and they couldnt be recoverd..
So I disabled the Tweak and rebooted...And to my horror i saw another Bad Icon in the taskbar ...and yes..i lost more files..wouldnt you know it ... the LargSystemCache was still activated...so into the registry i went...and i disabled it from there...then rebooted again...no probs this time so i launched FarCry...and i got that error saying something about a direct3d9 renderer failure..Ive read some other peeps had it too and didnt know why...so i did a scandisk..but it failed to run...TOTAL SYSTEM MELTDOWN...now i have to format my HD..and re-download the farcry patch cause...yup you guessed it ... missing files...GRRRRRRRRR!!!!...on Dial-up too..
Why the hell is this tweak in Rage3D Tweak anyways?????

i have also tried one similar utility before in the past.but not this one your talking about but did do a very similar thing.
removed several files in windows, uninstalled then rebooted and were still there.tried a system restore and it fuxed that up to.it were a definite no go.also did the same thing in the task-bar left the icon there and continued to keep running.
this is also part of the reason these utills like this does not go onto the front page at least in the past when i were just simply a newsposter only.but now as the news moderator these are a definite no go and that im strongly against doing so.
thanks for the info on this and also pleased there are no links to it also.but we can not answer why the reason its in there news!!!!

lol, if you knew of the dangers you can only blame yourself Even if it didn't mess up your install it doesn't help with gaming. But this doesn't seem to work well with ATi cards, I learned the hard way with my 8500 and 9700. You can also enable/disable this setting within WinXP by going into system properties/Advanced/performance settings/advanced/memory usage. Dont' enable this if you have an ATi card. You have been warned

Sup,
I have used Rage3d tweak back in the old days when I had a Radeon 9000 PRO. I remember the function that you mentioed in your post and it did the same to my system. I have steered well clear of it! In fact, save yourself the hastle of using Rage3d Tweak and use the Omage drivers - they contain all the tweaks you need for gaming

Geeesh.... give the guy a break! I don't think he needs to be told that he is the only one to be blammed! This isn't a forum for kids, and you are by no means the daddy of the show!! Perhaps what he needs is positive feedback
Easy to see how arguments are generated with posts like this.

Hi guys.. Thx for the reply's..well i did some reading about that particular tweak and thought it may have been ok to use with the newer drivers and ATI cards..And it did make FarCry run way faster...but probly cause some stuff wasnt loaded like the weapon sound effects..But to update i just reformatted and re-installed XP and as soon as i went online i was Hijacked by that new worm called W32Rbot.exe..
Here is how to kill it :
W32/Rbot-M
Aliases
W32.Randex.gen, IRC/SdBot.ARP trojan, Backdoor.Spyboter.cf, BKDR_SPYBOTER.CF, W32/Sdbot.worm.gen.g virus
Type
Win32 worm
Detection
A virus identity (IDE) file which provides protection is available now from the Latest virus identities section, and is incorporated into the July 2004 (3.83) release of Sophos Anti-Virus.
At the time of writing, Sophos has received just one report of this worm from the wild.
Description
W32/Rbot-M is a worm which attempts to spread to remote network shares.
W32/Rbot-M contains backdoor Trojan functionality, allowing unauthorised
remote access to the infected computer via IRC channels while running in the
background as a service process.
W32/Rbot-M spreads to network shares with weak passwords as a result of the
backdoor Trojan element receiving the appropriate command from a remote user.
When W32/Rbot-M is run it copies itself to the Windows system folder with the
filename wuam.exe and deletes the original copy if that filename was wuam.exe.
In order to run automatically when Windows starts up W32/Rbot-M creates the
following registry entries:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run \
Microsoft Update Time=wuam.exe
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run Services\
Microsoft Update Time=wuam.exe
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run \
Microsoft Update Time=wuam.exe.
W32/Rbot-M attempts to contact the host babe.thekiller.biz.
Recovery
Look in the Win\system and system32 folders for Wuam.exe and wuamgrd.exe and delete them
You will also need to edit the following registry entries, if they are present.
At the taskbar, click Start|Run. Type 'Regedit' and press Return. The registry editor opens.
Before you edit the registry, you should make a backup. On the 'Registry' menu, click 'Export Registry File'. In the 'Export range' panel, click 'All', then save your registry as Backup.
Locate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE entries:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run \
Microsoft Update Time=wuam.exe
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run Services\
Microsoft Update Time=wuam.exe
and delete them if they exist.
Each user has a registry area named HKEY_USERS\[code number indicating user]\. For each user locate the entry:
HKU\[code number]\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Run\Microsoft Update Time=wuam.exe.
and delete it if it exists.
Close the registry editor and reboot your computer.
Then:
After this open RegEdit and goto Edit--and do a search in the registry for anything called Wuam, wuamgrd, magnet, timmy, or timy and delete them too!... cheers guys hope this helps...
