the only thing a big monitor is gonna do for you is make your game run worse. why? because your gonna push the res and aa/af because the pixels are so large!

I'm ready to pump up the AA and AF to the max with a crisp 1600x1200 resolution...

??? What about my system?

Ok all of this talk about requirements has me worried, my system isn't old nessesarily, and I do overclock to get the most out of my hardware What do you guys think, any chance of playing Doom3 in my favourite resolution 1600X1200 with AA and AF off with decent framerates at least? Yeah I know it isn't state of the art either but heck I am on a budget and all of the current games run sweet, including UT2004 which I run in 1600X1200 as well !

My Specs:

Asus P4PE Motherboard, (533mhz FSB@620mhz, RAID, SATA, 4X AGP with o'clocked frequency)
Intel P4 2.53 gighz (O'clocked to 3.0 gighz)
1gig of PC2700 RAM (333mhz running @ 410mhz) -Turbo Mode
HIS Excalibur 9800 XT (@ 400,500)
80 gig ATA 133 7200 RPM Harddisk
Sony 40X,12X,52X, CDR,CDRW CD Rom

Stock cooling including an slot Exhaust fan next to my 9800 XT an an extra case fan in the front.

I am not too worried about AA and AF because I try to run my games in 1600X1200 which looks good anyway, so all I want is to be able to run Doom 3 and HL2 at this resolution smoothly with no loss of FPS !

Will the game be dual-threaded? That would be great then I would upgrade to a AIW 9800 at this point unless a newer AIW comes out in the meantime.

later

There's deathmatch and such gamemodes, but no cooperative mode, that's only going to be in the Xbox version. I'm confident a patch or mod will fix that though.

Yeah, it should be good, even Doom 1/2 are cool with surround sound, though you only get stereo, with no positional audio.

Me 3, heck there is nothing wrong with the 9800 XT it is still a great card, and look at it this way guys, how much of a increase in FPS are going really going to get by slapping a 6800 or X800 in your computer? Realistically I would be surprised if you get an extra 10 FPS, is it really worth the upgrade or would you be better off waiting untill the next generation PCI-E cards and upgrading your Motherboard/CPU to go with it? I know what I will be doing

It's actually quite a lot more than 10fps in a lot of circumstances. And these ARE the next generation cards.

So says me, with my 9800 pro.
