for some reason it doesnt look that way
im not sure where my issue falls in i think my videocard i dunno

I cant run games at Max or close to it with my system.
people say that my videocard Radeon9800 pro 128mb
should be able to run games fairly good
im noticing that i cant.
heres my specs

2 512 Sticks of pc3200 DDR400 corsair XMS
p4 2.4(oc'ed to 2.9)800Fsb
abit Ic7-g motherboard

Do you have FSAA or AF forced on in the control panel? Have you installed the chipset drivers? Is AGP texture acceleration on in dxdiag?

what is the system / processor temperature @ full load ? this might be the problem since you overclocked the proc from 2.4 to 2.9..

That setup should pull high 17K to 19K 3dmark01 scores easy. I would check drivers and DX9b is installed. A 10K is real low..... my laptop gets that.
The only current games that should cause hickups with that system are :
Halo due to crappy codeing
Far Cry because it is a beast graphicly but will look fantastic on that system. You should be able to run 1024 by 768 with AA/AF enabled with good framerates.

just to point out one of my benches from the past, similar setup but with a abit is7-e motherboard without aa & af were over 16k.at worst.
check your vga drivers are detecting the 8x enabled.try reinstalling those aswell as the vga drivers you are using.

16K with the cpu @ 2.9? or @ 2.4
I have a stock a64 3000+ demo system here with a 9800 Pro. All stock it gets an 18K. I would think a P4 @ 2.9 should be a little higher.
Medium texture for Far Cry might be what it will autodetect at. That game is a beast. An X800 is what it takes to run it high res with high detail.
My FX53 with 9800XT gets hammered in some levels at 1024 by 768 AA/AF enabled on high detail.

you sould play sp pandora tommorow set at high quite well as mine did.
but as for far cry you need one high end system for that.
win xp
p4 3g+/amd 3000+
1024mb
radeon 9800pro/nvidia 5950 256mb.
my system plays far cry on high settings at 1024x768 with no aa & af pretty well but still with the occasional slowdown.

What are your specs currently at?
clock speeds and driver versions.
Are all your windows updates run.
Do you have a bunch of processes running in the background. Quick look in the tool bar will show some obvious ones. I only have Motherboard monitor and speaker control running on mine.
Make sure all drivers are up to date.
Also what are you running you ram at? I noticed you are running PC3200. @ 2.9 your FSB is around 241mhz AKA 964 MHZ. To run 1:1 on Ram you should have is PC4000 (DDR500 aka 250mhz). Are you running your ram ratio down to keep the ram close to spec? If so that could be one reason you are missing some performance. Just one thing I noticed.

clock speed on CPU and video card. Assuming video card is stock and CPU @ 2.9
I believe 3:2 puts your ram @ 160 MHZ AKA DDR 320MHZ
I would try 5:4 FSB 241 the ram would be @ 193 MHZ which would real close to DDR 400 AKA PC3200
