UT 2004 patch question
i've read that the new patch has a dx9 experimental renderer, i have installed the patch but in settings the renderer dx9 is not available, is it applied directly with the 3d renderer? or am i supposed to have an extra option available for the experimental dx9 renderer?

the directx9 renderer is included in the patch (i wouldn't call it experimental its perfectly stable and gives good performance), but you can't select from the main menu you have to edit the ini files to enable it. go2 the directory where you installed ut2k4 and go2 the system sub-directory. now open up ut2004.ini and look for a section liek this (should be near the top)
[Engine.Engine]
RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice
;RenderDevice=Engine.NullRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=PixoDrv.PixoRenderDevice
change it to look like this
[Engine.Engine]
;RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice
RenderDevice=D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice
;RenderDevice=Engine.NullRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=PixoDrv.PixoRenderDevice
Furthermore you can go2 the [D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice] section and change settings, but since you seem inexpierenced with this id suggest you just go in2 the game and change the settings there. hope this helps

No problemo. the dx9 option is nice i'm just puzzled as 2 why they didn't make it show up as a rendering option in the main menu as its perfectly stable as far as i and many other ppl now.

the options are located in the same folder (unreal ini) as the rederer selection, just sroll down till you see [D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice] to enable the options just type True instead of false on the desired options.

the difference between dx9 and dx8 in this game is minimum you would actually have to take a good look to make out a difference but in regard to performance in dx9 mode with my 9800 pro performance is better.

MaxPixelShaderVersion=255, maybe if anyone figures out what the value for ps2.0 is we might actually see a difference, any takers?/suggestions? (this would be with using the dx9 renderer)

MaxPixelShaderVersion=x. This option shouldn’t be modified, leave it alone.
thats what i found looking into what the setting could be set at
but i found a few people .ini's were it's set @ a value of 1
