Steam statistics that might be of interest.

For all the flak Steam has recieved, here might be some ratification to its existence.
A statistical survey of what the Steam users computers are made up of:
http://www.steampowered.com/status/survey.html

Rough figures:
AMD: 50 % Intel: 50%
ATi: 27% nVidia: 65%
WinXP: 84% Win2000: 8% 98/Me: 7%

Granted, the user systems on steam are possibly a bit older than in other places, since the biggest games played are just CounterStrike variants. (most popular card being GF4-MX) Might be more interesting to compare a year or so.

Edit: I had some difficulty deciding where to post this, so move if necessary. Might be a neat thing for the news too.

Complete side note: Sorry... but it's in the States that you outlaw the most stuff possible. Also it's kinda fun to see some nice topless babes on the beach from time to time (not outlawed there... well in france). Another fact, I bet a lot of the french gamers come from Quebec (province that pretty much hates everyone except itself... very funny)

ok guys, you've both made your point.
Can we keep this on topic please?

I'm made a little more suspicious about the HL2 fiasco now that we know the majority of the people who use steam are using nVidia's cards and nVidia really didn't like the idea of it being better on ATi hardware.

Current Steam.

Talking to current CS players/Steam Players you'll happily find that they are most likely going to purchase ATI hardware (Bundle deal) to play CS2 when it comes out for HL2.

Remember this of of users who use steam i just signed up with steam a month ago to get my half life bonus with my ati.

other wised i would have never used it...
there are countless millions who don't use steam

So as you said this is sampling of steam users nothing else and has no bearing on the big picture. Most computer knowledgeable people use amd and ati

I'm a hardcore gamer, Right now I game more then any of you work!, yet I’ve never really liked the hl series, even then when i had it before I never installed steam.. The hl series is plagued by cheaters (like q3), it no fun when 1/2 the other team is using aim bots are in god mode.

Let us not forget to take into consideration that people could opt out of this hardware survey so they data is not really 100% accurate.

As far as cheaters in the HL scene, yes there is alot of cheaters. However, have you ever heard of Cheating-Death, Half-Life Guard, and Valve Anti-Cheat? Not likely if your talking about "hackers" using god mode. There has not been a god mode hack for the multiplayer game going as far back as I can remember. (Unless of course someone using admin-mod or amx-mod or the other one I forget enabled it on someone). Most hacks have nothing to do with health levels, they typically show where the enemy is, what weapon they use, who they are, (in CS not being blinded by flashes, smoke not showing up), and aimbots. valVE used to announce every time they updated VAC, they don't do that anymore but they update on a weekly basis, and to be honest with you if you run a server and you have decent admins, hacking really is not an issue at all.

CS2 has not been officially announced, let's stop pretending it has been and keep the hype down. ANYTHING you hear about CS2 is simply hype and hopes, nothing more and nothing less. Believe it is coming when valVE announces it as they own the soul rights to that franchise. Due to that fact, I would not expect them to permit the mod community to create CS2.

I currently use ATI and opted out. So that should tell you something. Not only that, But today I had to play with my firewall because Steam for some reason was connecting out and d/l stuff even though I shut it down and it was killing my connection. You all may want to look into this.

I dunno what it is I call it god mode, could be something like a reduced state of damage is an insane helth level, couse I mean you could kill some one with a few shot then turn aound get the jump on someone unload you and the guy next to you empty gun clip into them, and they don't die!!! after he wastes most of your team and took more shots then passable then he dies.

I've nades blow up at peoples feet and nothing, they when kill you about 1 second later..

instant kills, with any wepen you get hit hit once ya die, no time to react, and it's usally trough stuff like the big wood crates etc... you don't even see them and they sure as heck can't see you.

ther are alot of custom hacks you don't know about there. I know of people thats had god mode in games like the orgional unrealtourny, they even braged about it, ut pure a chcp or what ever cheat protection din't detect it...

same thing with punk buster enabled games, I seen cheating like mad.....

When you've played games like i have you lern the diff. between a skilled player and a cheater. when you have a player running around like a noob, makeing impossable shots etc, or doing 180's etc it pretty clear. But don't do much good to accuse becouse most cheats toggle on and off.

meaning thet have it bound with a key to turn off or on as to aprear not to be cheating.

I keep my ear to the ground about any public cheats, I'll tell ya what most cheats are private! why? becouse someone will send them in report them and the hole will be fixed! they don't want that

There were several updates for Steam games, perhaps it was downloading those? As long as it's running it will try to update everything, unless you hit Games and right-click on each game, and turn off updating in the Properties dialog.
If you already knew this, I humbly retract

Neon are you sure you were not playing on servers with stupid mods like warcraft 3 installed? I know some mods for CS depending on your kill streaks give you more HP...I have seriously never come across a health hack in all my years of playing

No matter though, just because I have not seen them does not mean they do not exist I suppose
