My UT2k4 Server
Just wanted to let everyone know I've got a Dedicated Server running for UT2k4 going, If anyone can I'd love some feedback on it. It plays real nice for me but of course It's on the other side of the room from me. It's running Assault right now cause I haven't figured out how to get it to cycle through the types. It's called Poopys Place and I'm Poopy_The_J. So hopefully I'll see you guys there!

really, lag right away? hmmmm, Neon and I played for a while last night with a couple other random folks and were fine, at least Neon said it was ok. Should I just drop the bots all together? Server is in Ohio. All bots dropped.

I popped in ping was in the 60-90 range, ran smooth, of course no one was on. Perhaps setting the bot minimum to 6 or so would be a good compromise for play/ performance. I only kick the bot's out when someone wants to get a feel for the game, practise the vehicles. I have the bot's set to novice with the ability to adjust to the players capabilities. Highest I've gotten them to is adept on the onslaught map. Of course things get real ugly for me when the map rotates to dm Nothing like shooting the bot up close with the flak gun only to have it wheel and kill ya in one shot. I can't even imagine what they'd be like in godmode lol.

Thanks for that link Darkfoss, when I get home I'll have to implement it. Currently I'm just web-admining and changing map types randomly or by request.

Not sure if you setup the INI files...
Not sure how you setup the server.... what it's running on... or whatnot
I just went on... my ping was solid at 40ms ping.. HOWEVER... it's like the server is getting a hickup causing my end to... have a burst lag... kinda of effect..... it'll be not to bad... but not my ping doesn't feel right... it feels like i'm playing on a 200ms server.... not 50ms...
anyways... for whatever INI file you set the dedicated server to adress... change them (by default.. it will be your UT2004.INI file... go into it and fine this: )
Quote:
[IpDrv.TcpNetDriver]
AllowDownloads=True
ConnectionTimeout=20.0
InitialConnectTimeout=200.0
AckTimeout=1.0
KeepAliveTime=0.2
MaxClientRate=15000
MaxInternetClientRate=10000
SimLatency=0
RelevantTimeout=5.0
SpawnPrioritySeconds=1.0
ServerTravelPause=4.0
NetServerMaxTickRate=20
LanServerMaxTickRate=35
DownloadManagers=IpDrv.HTTPDownload
DownloadManagers=Engine.ChannelDownload
AllowPlayerPortUnreach=False
LogPortUnreach=False
MaxConnPerIPPerMinute=5
LogMaxConnPerIPPerMin=False
|
Now i recommend you try replacing with this:
Quote:
[IpDrv.TcpNetDriver]
AllowDownloads=False
ConnectionTimeout=20.0
InitialConnectTimeout=200.0
AckTimeout=1.0
KeepAliveTime=0.2
MaxClientRate=5500
MaxInternetClientRate=5500
SimLatency=0
RelevantTimeout=5.0
SpawnPrioritySeconds=1.0
ServerTravelPause=4.0
NetServerMaxTickRate=10
LanServerMaxTickRate=10
DownloadManagers=IpDrv.HTTPDownload
DownloadManagers=Engine.ChannelDownload
AllowPlayerPortUnreach=False
LogPortUnreach=False
MaxConnPerIPPerMinute=5
LogMaxConnPerIPPerMin=False
|
Give that a try... you should see a MAJOR boost for everyone.... i'm currently checking into the ServerTravelPause setting....

OK... i think the server has some good potenial...
Some specs would/could be used.... also if it's a pure dedicated (if it is sometimes or ragually used....or if it's actually never used but hosts everything)
Also... after talking to you on the server.... (although hard)... add me to you MSN... PvrJudas@hotmail.com
Using ICS on a computer with 2 NICS plus windows XP Pro SP1..... is going to pull a few nasties.....
A router.. specifically.. a D-link 604/704 router will do you wonders.. if you got extra cash... you should try and find a new router or newest... this will make it more futureproof.. and more hardware firewall protective....
Setting up the ports are real easy for the UT line of servers...
I'm going to see if i have time to look into setting up the server as a Windows Service so that if it crashes... it auto starts up again.... and when you start windows it allocated all the resources it needs before tritiary programs do..... this gives the best overall preformance guaranteed... and is pretty uncrashable...
2nd is being from a bat file.... these really do the job.... although can have there quirks... and can be made uncrashable... but if the cmd itself dies.. it pretty dead...
3rd (which your doing)... is starting a dedicated server from the game itself... problem lies that the game itself (if you run pure dedicated)... will minimize..... and load into the systray.... acting kinda like a service.. but is pretty .... i found... unstable.. hard to work with.. is an overall hog....
When i get time.. i'll try and find the tutorials... maybe packup some of my files... and send you what will really get the server pounding.... When i get a dual wan router... or/and W2k3..... (if i can).... i'll see if i can really drill into a super pure dedicated server.... (20mb/s BABY! )

Thanks Judas I'll add you I think I amy have fixed the whole disconnecting reconnecting thingy, put in a different nic. Older Intel but very stable. Thanks for the help. So everyone else, the server is running it's waiting for you, let me know how it's running!

Well router has been setup, I think everything should be kosher, Neon if you get the chance check out the pings now that the router is going I wonder if it's any better.
