How to play the UT2004 DEMO in openGL mode
goto the unreal2004 install folder
C:\UT2004Demo\System\
open
UT2004.ini
look for this code....
Quote:
[Engine.Engine]
RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice
;RenderDevice=Engine.NullRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=PixoDrv.PixoRenderDevice
|
edit it to read
Quote:
[Engine.Engine]
:RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice
;RenderDevice=Engine.NullRenderDevice
RenderDevice=OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=PixoDrv.PixoRenderDevice
|
BTW: Anyone know what is a pixo render device?
EDIT please note it will 1/2 your frame rate (this is probubly why it's not in the menu options )
I ran the flyby and botmach benches the scores were all halfed very intesting useally opengl is normally much faster.... some one else give this a try

I know this works on ut 2003 and anything based off the ut 2003 engine...
other games may have hidden opengl support but the lines you chage may be diffent or simular..
also there is a code simular to this for the origional UT wich is based on the quake3 engine! so yea thier should be alot of game with simular settings.
what game are you thinking about? If it has a demo or you can get me the config or ini's i could look for u....

ATI isnt known for having great opengl performance. If anyone wants to run this in opengl with an ATI card, an analogy- its like selling your 9800 XT and buying a 9600 non pro. same kind of "gains" to be had.

 I'm sure you right but in for example the old ut plays so much faster in opengl then d3d
Also take a look the current top 3 score holders in GLexcess are ATI users!
who knows mabe someone could find this usefull....

Nothing really in particular - just wanted to know if it can be done.

Wth, UT wasn't based on anything related to iD Software at all... It was using the Epic Unreal engine.. Just like its sequels are.

1: the old UT had crap coding for D3D.
2: no one buys nvidia anymore (well alot less)

You would think OpenGL would run smoother then D3D would.

ATI cards are really made for D3D. Certainly the drivers favour D3D.

UT had it's own engine.... also.. majority of all ...D3D was faster... however.. OPENGL can give you some niftier looking graphics when coupled with the high res textures... now i know someone got the textures to work in D3D.... but it was dog slow.....

...Glide.... was purely excellent.... and still produces some nice overall graphics....if Glide was still around.... and supported the same features as today.... man... i think it would be top pick yet.....

not many games use opengl, thats why ati sees little use in using opengl. i think doom 3 is using opengl (thats what i saw in the beta i think) so it might hurt them then

Glide totally rocked, I would suppose that Nvidia owns the rights to Glide at this point right? They should release it as open source if they aren't going to do anything with it or start promoting it as a new/recreated API. Since they don't really care about D3D compliance and standards they could make their own.

I completely agree. Glide was a blast! Making it open source is a good idea actually... Unless Nvidia have plans to revive 3Dfx (doubt that, just a sip too many from the wish bottle)
edit: consider 3Dfx, free from Nvidia and back in business.. Taking over the gfx scene again.... OMG, wouldn't that rock.

Yeah, Glide certainly did own. I still used it up until a few months ago as I still play UT1, but sadly when I bought ATI I had to go d3d and ogl. d3d isnt poor performance on ut1, neither is ogl - patch your games and use the latest .drv and ini's and its fine.

MaxLogVOverU=8
MaxLogUOverV=8
OneXBlending=True
GammaCorrectScreenshots=True
GammaOffsetBlue=0.000000
GammaOffsetGreen=0.000000
GammaOffsetRed=0.000000
GammaOffset=0.000000
LODBias=0.00000
DescFlags=0
Description=RADEON 9600 SERIES
and this gives me best performance for UT1, haven't tried it in 2k3, or 2k4
All depends on how you set it up, if you have the time you can have any game playing just as good with the right settings.

Pixo is the software renderer.
By the way, has anyone gotten the "D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice" to work? Perhaps it's some DX9 path that isn't fully incorporated in the demo, but I'm still curious if it runs for anyone.

Maybe, but it'll probably run pretty good on a dual processor Mac using OpenGL. I don't doubt at all it'll be available... UT2k4 and Doom 3 both.
