Quake 1 + Tenebrae = Knock your Socks OFF

I dont' know if you guys have tried this mod yet... http://tenebrae.sourceforge.net . It's simply incredible. It uses a bunch of modern algorithms to pimp up quake 1. And if you go to the download page to get it, be sure to download the retexturing project's stuff. This game now is both the most taxing and beautiful game on my rig. A quick warning though, make sure you have some heavy hardware to back this thing up because I have a BBATI Radeon 9800 Pro, and @ 1024 by 768 x 32 bit color I average thirty frames.

Yey gonna give this a try!

Funny isnt it...Quake is such an old game that playing it on a highend computer would be a breeze, but add all this fancy shader stuff in and it'll slow down to 30 fps on some parts.
Makes you wonder whats going on with games these days. Sacrifising map detail/complexity for 'shiny' pipes and reflective puddles on the floor...

actually a 8500le 64mb will run it rather quite decently.... it's all in the options and how you set it all up.... if you turn every possible effect to max... all hardware will die and come to a crawl bagging for mercie... it's rather very interesting what they are doing with the game.. wish i could see Quake 2 getting a facelift... or Quake 3 for that matter..... (it's all in the source code....though... so till then... nope)

Heres something for you Judas:

A: Tenebrae2 supports the original Quake3 bsp format. It may require some work to get Quake3 maps working in Tenebrae2 however. You will certainly need to write new shaders (or edit existing shaders) and supply color, bump and specular maps for the quake3 surfaces. If you want to get every last feature of Tenebrae2 working, it will require you to relight the map. Ydnar (of q3map2) did some additions to the lighting stage for us, mainly to support delux mapping.

http://www.tenebrae2.com/

Not quite Quake3 but better than nothing

It's actually not even the quake 1 engine anymore according to their website. I guess the guy rewrote the entire graphics code? Anyway, I'm having fun. What blew me away the most so far was when you go to pick your skill level in the beginning... the light shining through the window and just like ... reflecting onto the dust... wow.

Hm...both Quake and Tenenbrae refuse to run on my windowsXP box..even using "compatability" or whatever. Any clue?

Man I haven't played my old dos games in years...

Never mind fixed it..just deleted opengl32.dll form the quake directory.

Amazing... one question thought: has anybody tried this with the mods? I'm trying to see how it looks with Mega Team Fortress, but can't seem to find a reliable link.

Apparently you have to have custom prog something or another's to run with mods HsuGotaQ. Check Tenebrae's site, and I guess Mega Team Fortress. Although, it supports OpenGL so it should support Tenebrae?
