link isn't working for me.... but does it have a motion sensor on it? I had one like that and had to remember to deactivate the motion sensor on it or it would constantly scroll. Just something to check I suppose....

thing is the install CD is spartan to say the least and there is no handy pamphlet
all i have is the info on that link for play and that isnt a lot to on ........ sorry

heres the readme on;y prob i see is XP isnt shown as a supported os but on play's website its advertised as xp compatible
USB Controller Drivers 23-09-2001
Hardware:
SmartJoy3
SmartJoy3 2 Player
USB Gamepad
Operating Systems:
Win98, WinME, Win2K
IMPORTANT: Install software before plugging joystick adapter in.
To install software:
Double click "setup.exe"
If any previous drivers have been installed, a dialog will be shown,
listing those drivers that have been removed.
Windows will then copy the necessary files, and may ask you for
your Windows CD, and the current install directory.
Once the software is installed, the adapter can be plugged into the
USB port - after a short delay, an entry will appear in the Control
Panel for Game Controllers.
Important note for using ASCII fishing controller:
Use switch position 2 for fishing
use switch position '.' for dual shock emulation with tilt

is it new? If not, sounds like a common button failure in controller itself, can you test the controller on an actual ps2?

normally if it says Win2k compatible it will work on XP, I seriously cant see them selling this product if it doesnt work on XP. Play would have a nightmare on their hands with it. it might be you received a faulty convertor. unfortunately I cant test the one i ordered as it still hasnt arrived.

the phrase "cant see the forest for the tree's" comes to mind
after 2 weeks of trying various drivers i reformated the pc and installed letting windows detect it ............................... it worked perfectly
then i plugged in my joystick for planes in bf and the pad went to hell in a handbasket
all this time it was the joystick all i had to do was unplug the usb lead ........... ah well live and learn eh
