Thumbs Up! Something to Boost Call of Duty Performance

I've tried the following and it's working very, very well.

One of my buddies on another game forum posted this little tidbit:

"had some problems with cod unloading out hard on my hard drive and i remembered this.

com_hunkmegs[this is for quake3]

com_hunkmegs - allocates a certain amount of memory for map and item loading. The default of 56 is required for the client but is overkill for a dedicated server, and thus wasting precious server memory. For general use free for all, tournament maps, and team deathmatch, a com_hunkmegs setting of 32 is sufficient. Using the included tournament maps only, a com_hunkmegs setting of 24 may be used to conserve more memory. Capture The Flag servers may benefit from a com_hunkmegs setting of 56.

default seems to be 128 i upped mine to 384[i have 512 ram]and the thrashing stopped, leave a little for windows to run."

I also have 512 MB and changed the config.cfg setting to 384. Leave at least a 100 MB or so for Windows during the game. You'll find that cfg file in the Main folder of the game. And, you can open it with Notepad or another text editor. To easily find the setting, once you open the cfg file, use the Edit/Find option and just type 'hunk' without any marks.

I'm currently using CAT 3.9 with the CAT 3.7 atiogl.dll. I haven't had a lockup since installing this.

If you need the CAT 3.7 atiogl.dll file, click here. I've posted it in zip format for download.

Go to Windows/System32 and rename your current file by changing the last letter to an 'x'. Then extract the zip file to that folder.

@ Dyre Straits

Thanks a lot for posting the atioglxx.dll file from Cat 3.7. I'm using them with my Omega 3.9 on a 9600 Pro with Fastwrites ENABLED, AGP 8X and VPU Recover DISABLED. I have no idea why people in other threads are telling others that Fastwrites is the culprit. Obviously the OpenGL component of Cat 3.8/3.9 is the one causing all these lockups with Call Of Duty........

Cheers!

The regular 3.9s do work fine for some if fastwrites are disabled. This is the case on both my rigs
