WIN TWO Keys for Shattered Horizon
Futuremark have given me two keys for STEAM for their latest game Shattered Horizon.
Shattered Horizon To win one, just post about your best or most entertaining gaming experience. The two that appeal to me most will get one of the keys. I will close this in a few days. |

Re: WIN TWO Keys for Shattered Horizon
Catching myself trying to look around corners, ducking and backing away from the screen the first time I played DOOM 3,
it was 1:00 AM and I played it in the dark. For whatever reason I got so drawn into the game it got "real" for me. The sounds in the game were the best I can recall from my then recently purchased Logitech Z5500 speakers, could have sworn there were creatures in the room behind me . Don't think I have ever been so scared by a game before or since , everything just "clicked".

Re: WIN TWO Keys for Shattered Horizon
One of my best gaming experiences was playing the original Tomb Raider with the ViRGE patch. Sure, it was slower than software (the ViRGE was the one and only 3D decelerator) but it had texture filtering, and that was amazing. I spent a lot of time just playing with the few graphical settings and comparing how they looked. Nothing, not even seeing Quake in OpenGL on SGI workstations, ever gave me that same awesome feeling that 3D cards really meant something.

Re: WIN TWO Keys for Shattered Horizon
Another first was, IIRC, Terminator: Future Shock, which I think was the first game with mouse control as we know it today (or at least the first I encountered). That also gave me the feeling "that's the way it's supposed to be done".

Re: WIN TWO Keys for Shattered Horizon
Oh, and playing the original Unreal castle flyby over and over on my Rage II+ in 32-bit colour at different resolutions at 3 fps or so. It was so beautiful. (I later got a Matrox m3D, which played that rather better).

Re: WIN TWO Keys for Shattered Horizon
Another fun experience I had was playing an RPG on the Amiga -- I think it was Knightmare. It was a pirated game, and probably as a result had a bug that when you got poisoned the game crashed. That really made it extremely intense at some points. I remember drawing snakes into deadly areas, keeping my distance so they won't strike me, memorising the keys that made me move over the safe path.

Re: WIN TWO Keys for Shattered Horizon
And, BTW, since as far as I could see Shattered Horizon is a multiplayer shooter, I figure it's better to give it to people who play these kinds of games, which I rarely do (last I did was UT2003). But I still enjoy reminiscing about the good old days.
Edit: I've read some more about this game, and I'm tempted to see it in action, but still, it's multiplayer only, which means I'm unlikely to actually play it. Last edited by ET3D; Nov 1, 2009 at 01:44 AM. |

Re: WIN TWO Keys for Shattered Horizon
They are many that I don't remember but I will mention the most recently , in Red Alert 3 in one campaign you have to fight the last battle against the Empire of the rising sun with " The Allies" , I have relatively dump AI on my side as a Co-commander while all the attacks are aimed towards me by air and sea. I can't just have enough time to built enough forces to attack , they are just brutally attacking especially with their commander Yuriko " Hell how can she does all of this , destroy everything in sight " , then I figured I can do something tricky , I can just use the chromosphere and transfer some of the empire ships attacking by sea to the land to get them destroyed once they get on land and it worked
, time to use our air forces for speedy frequent attacks on their defenses around their base " Hit and run " beside using time bombs which detonate after 5 sec from placing it. I saved the game to start another time with my full-intense mood , Now back to these bastard for their final destiny.

Re: WIN TWO Keys for Shattered Horizon
ahhh so many memories
![]() don't know where to begin really. there was the sheer joy of Paper Boy on my old Sinclair ZX Spectrum, once you'd got those stupid tapes to load up of course ![]() scary myself silly playing Doom on my own in the dark aged about 11, on an old 386. or the first time i discovered a game i was genuinely better than my older brother at. Gameboy Tennis God i was good at that game ![]() one gaming experience that's always stuck with me isn't a 'good' one as such. it was Metal Gear Solid on my PS1, and it was the first time i can remember being genuinely close to chucking a machine out a window. remember Psycho Mantis? that "I can read your mind!" will stay with me forever. i didn't know anyone else who had a ps1, and no intraweb either. in the end (without telling my folks..) i called the premium rate phone line on the back of the booklet. how in the hell was i meant to figure out that you need to change controller ports mid-game ??!!??!!?? you never touched the controllers in-game, ever. i hated them for doing that to me..

![]() I can't remember a real 'best' experience, because is have several. This is one: I was playing Medieval 2 Total War (like Rome with better graphics :P) and I had conquered many settlements. But these settlements were scattered all around the map. So at one moment all those countries were mad at me and started to attack me. Since I had a lot of those cites and an army was expensive, I only had some units in each city to keep the costs low. However all my rivals came with huge armies (with a Cross above it, since they were on a Crusade). They attacked me, but I managed to kill a lot of them since there was kind of a bug in the game: the siege towers didn't moved for a while so my archers could kill a lot men from the enemy army. Eventually I lost the whole battle. However at that time the Mongol Invasion came and wiped out all my rivals (well the Mongolians were also my enemy, but you get it right :P?). So later in the game I could easily make a counterattack and win the game! ![]() Ok, short: Bug helped me + luck

Re: WIN TWO Keys for Shattered Horizon
My best Game experience came from playing Cs:S I dont know why but that night, I was just invincible, My headshots were on the mark, I was dodging bullets like neo, and Everyone was accusing me of aimbotting, which I wasn't, I was unkillable for 2.5 hours, and even a clan was getting pissed at me... ahhhh great times.
After 2.5 Hours I didn't have shattered horizons to look forward to, so I promptly died.

Now that I loaded my game save , I am ready to fight those bastard. After some clashes here and there I defeated one of the empire commanders , two left. I found that transporting my armies to the center of my enemies land via chromosphere is a suicide as they have strong ground military so I considered the best way to finish the mission to keep bombarding defenses via air military , this will open a pathway to my Co-commander to snap them right in the heart. It proves successful , now another enemy is down , 1 left. I am low on credits and the mines have been depleted . No problem , send the remaining aircraft to bomb infrastructures like refineries and the power plants. In the mean time I built more refineries at the defeated enemies gold mines. Ok , now he is agonizing , boom boom boom . He is no more . Heee , You are victorious .

Re: WIN TWO Keys for Shattered Horizon
The first time I played City of Heroes and realised that character creation has a slider for breast size...
(I had quite a few good gaming moments playing City of Heroes, but most of them boil down to managing to solo a mission after a lot of effort, or having some nice generic multi-player experience. I can't find anything I think is really interesting to tell.) Last edited by ET3D; Nov 1, 2009 at 01:23 AM. |

Re: WIN TWO Keys for Shattered Horizon
I remembered a funny experience I had in the early days of gaming. My family visited friends of my parents, and they had an Atari (the classic Atari 2600 console). At some point, their son, who was several years younger than me, was playing missile command (or space invaders, I don't really remember) enthusiastically. He was moving the joystick with excitement, calling "yes" when a level was cleared. Only thing was, his joystick wasn't even hooked to the console. I was sitting behind him, playing the game, but he thought for some reason that it was he who was controlling it, and probably doing better than he ever did, which is why he was so excited.
