I have a 13 year old brother who is interested in one and plays alot of PC games and playstation 2 games. he plays all kinds of games, from FPS to sports games, so it has to be diverse and capabily of holding the attention of a young teenager.

is it worth getting him this or are the games rubbish? anyone got one?

My daughter (5...and a half lest she read this) plays mine quite frequently (my 3 year old son mainly watches and then goes back to Reader Rabbit) and I've been impressed with the few games I've played. For young kids like mine it's a no brainer. If I were 13 I think I'd be thinking "XBox." I skipped on that one partially because of the GC's tamer game titles and partially because we already have two fairly decent PCs.

Atari for sell, hehehehehe. JK, I haven't played with on yet. My opinion: Stick with PS2 or XBox. They seem to have the power to drive towards better technology.

I happen to have the benefit of having both a GameCube and a PS2 - I skipped the XBox because my PC is a bit better

I picked up the GC this afternoon and have played Rogue Leader, Sonic 2, Super Monkey Ball and Tony Hawk Pro Scater 3. Gotta say this - THPS3 is better on GC than it is on the XBox I've played.

Also, Nintendo are trying to get mature players onto the GC as well, with titles like Resident Evil. Old game I know, but its a start.

Graphically, the GC is far superior to the PS2 -but thats hardly a suprise. But the main selling point is the price - its damn cheap. I picked up my GC + 4 games + another controller + a memory card for £220 - thats £20 more expensive than the Xbox by itself.

Load times are impressive as well

IMHO the PS2 is a great console but probably not for kids. All the classics are on PS2 ... e.g. MGS2 etc.

As for the Xbox... thats just a worthless pile of MS Bull!!!! I usually don't lash out at stuff because ....well... i don't... But i feel that the Xbox is a ripoff. I predict that in a few months we will be able to play xbox games on the pc... (after all the hardware is almost identical, if not 100%!!!!!!!!! lol).
As for GameCube, i've had the fortune of playing on the GC for quite a while. The games are quite fun and are fitting for small children.

But if you ask me, i don't think it matters what you get your kids. In my experience with kids... (i'm not a father yet thank god) you can never please them. Find out what they want and get it for them .... that way at least they won't complain too much .

Have fun...

I'd get a Game Cube, Monkey Ball (great group game) and Resident Evil...I hear the GC version is stunning, but haven't played it...not quite appropriate for my kids yet (heck, they don't even know I have the Star Wars game).

I can personally vouch for MonkeyBall (great), SSX (pretty fun) and Rogue Whatever and my 5 year old loves Sonic (she's into the Chao development part of the game and sees the action part as nothing more than a way to get more stuff for her Chao).

awwww - how sweet

Now, get her into Resident Evil - muahahahahahahaha

On another note, its taken me 1 hour to get past the 1st level in Rogue Leader (the Star Wars GC game). FM - this is waaaay too hard for a console title so far :/ But it does look very nice, with loads of film clips before and during mission

GAMECUBE is the greatestest console ever so far, cause all the old games that I once played on very old consoles are now available on GC. I just love Super Smash Brothers and the way new Mario and Luigi look, they are great and funny.

The only game so far that interests me in the Gamecube is RESIDENT EVIL! I'm such a RE fan, though I don't show it with posters and junk like that. I've played all the games that I have had access to (which excludes all of the console versions of it...) Unfortunately, I haven't even seen the movie yet, what a shame.

My 12 year old son recently bought a GameCube. He bought Rogue Leader and really likes it. He has been renting different games to find out which ones he likes the most. A big part of his decision to get a GameCube was due to the fact that many of his friends have GC as well. They can take their controllers and games to each others home and all play.

my son of 7 years has the ps2 and the gamecube and he prefers the cube at the moment(maybe because its new) but i would say when the cube has a few more titles released it would be a better bet than the ps2 for price alone and then theres rogue leader 2 which is really quite amazing.

I've got the benefit of having all three consoles, and my 10 year old son is playing the GC quite a bit. He likes the "wow that's cool of the features" that the Xbox has, and he enjoys playing with the PS2 since it also alows for the PS1 games and Final Fantasy. Both the Xbox and PS2 are both due for a price cut to $199 in the next month so I don't think the "I can get a GC and two games for a price of Xbox/PS2" is going to cut it much longer. I personally like the Xbox but IMHO all three are great systems and would make any console gamer happy.

Man, I hate that GC controller. I keep pressing the wrong buttons! Not to mention that my hands are a wee bit too big for it. That's my only gripe, well, other than the fact that there really aren't any good games that would make me want one. Xbox and PS2 look nice though.

At first I was worried about the size and layout of the Xbox controller but it's turned out to fit my hand very well. Only problem with button placement is the black and clear buttons on the upper right.

Bah... we've just all been spoiled by the first batch of PS2 games that were WAY too easy (Onimusha or Zone of Enders anyone?). Between Rogue Leader and Maximo (and Devil May Cry) the consoles are finally starting to get back up to the 'frickin' hard level of difficulty. That, and now people have a reason to keep their games longer than 5 minutes after they get home and finish them.
