Why do people like Mafia?
Me and my friend both played through the game entirely and thought it was far too slow paced and most of the missions were mostly running errends. Can someone tell me why this game was raved about?

I've never "raved" about it but it is a good, solid game! The storyline hooked me. I simply loved the idea of working my way up the chain. Plus come on man, its the MAFIA! we're talking Godfather days So I didn't mind at all running the meaningless errands

well of course this boils down to personal taste.
Ill say that mafia was probably one of my favourite game of all time. The reason is, when I played it, I was transferred into the era. the whole atmosphere was brilliant, from all the cars to the buildings, the storyline. I also loved the characterisations. Then again ive always loved the godfather and stories based on this time in history.
It was also at the time one of the nicest games graphically available, which was a good showcase for the high end hardware I had.
Mafia was never meant to be "fast" paced action. It had a great storyline and i cant wait to get V2, if they ever make it.

The story and atmosphere were just about perfect to me, and it just hit that "funfactor" with me I guess. The missions were varied and I liked the pacing, I thought it moved itself along nicely while still giving you the time to apreciate it's subtleties.

well im not sure on the exact error you are getting, but if you are using an SP1 rolled in OS installed from fresh, you will have to get the indeo codecs to play the video which in turn means the actual game cant load past the intro at all , this is because Ligos and Microsoft had a falling out and they dont allow the codec to be supplied anymore. Problem is they CHARGE for this codec now. of course its bundled in many of the **cough** codec packages available on the net, but this isnt legal.
of course it could be a different problem you have...... any more details on this error?

Why do people like Mafia?
Because of the concept and storyline of the game... it's just beautiful, and the graphics are amazing... I agree the gameplay can be kinda slow and you gotta do stupid errands at the start of the game.. but when you finish the first couple of missions then you will get to the exciting stuff...

I played through all of the game and was bored with it. I was expecting a GTA like experiance which this game definatly does not deliver.

well for you to play the whole game through and to be "bored", must mean it gave you something (even if you dont know it ), cause I sure as hell know if a game bores me I deinstall it in 10 minutes

Try Omegadrive's drivers, they've been known to work wonders with screwy bugs like that.

Zardon......four words--------->WAY, WAY too cool. i love this game, though its a bit slow but its bearable. The game is actually very rich in detail, i like it...its like playing metal gear solid which makes one feels like living in the game...the graphics is ok, not as good as splinter cell though. anyway, this game is good, very highly recommended for those who love games with great story line and cool effects, details..............by the way, when was the game released??

Mafia
The atmosphere was great Everything from the music, to the cars, to the people made you leave the year 2002 (When I played it) and back to the 1930s. The story was also very nice too Oh man, I should reinstall that game~!

This is a game that got uninstalled within ten minutes. It had no game controller support. That's a pet-peeve of mine. It's too bad, it really looked nice, but I can't stand KB&M control and I was too lazy to try and create a controller profile for it.
Maybe I'll try it again some other time....

Re: Why do people like Mafia?
A bit of a late response, but I thought Mafia was great. Granted, I did hate driving around from point A to point B sometimes (especially in those damn slow cars!), but overall it was a very well-crafted game. Above all else, that game had ATMOSPHERE. It had excellent graphics, realistic driving, awesome music, and an interesting story.
My only complaint would have to be the car race level.
