The New PSX
CNN Page
Pics of this sexy thing.
Confusing naming scheme, but this console will push Sony's flexible gaming console way beyond Microsoft's X-Box in terms of flexibility. Officially supporting Linux, keyboard, mouse, soon to have a whopping 120 GB HDD space, built in TV Tuner, DVD-RW/R and then some! To top it off it has a sleek design! With Sony coming up with a online gaming thing (Although I don't think it will work as fluidly as the X-Box Live!) Sony is walking the right path

And then I'm sure MS will release a better version of the XBOX and we'll be back to where we started....scrambling to buy the best console. Oh well I'm game.

There is an X-Box Revision coming out
It's supposed to be sleeker in design. Basically a new look with same hardware (I don't know of the hardware enhancements or extras) But it will be cutting production costs.

It's called Xbox Lite. It's basically the same exact thing with better cooling and a smaller profile. Do to the number of complaints about the Xbox being too bulky...
It was supposed to be announced at E3 officially, but there was nothing about it...
Don't know if it's still on the radar. They might drop development and cocentrate on Xbox Next aka... Xbox 2

Early reports had it around $150.
They just dropped Xbox's price to $170 though... so I don't know what they have in mind for Lite.

What about the PSX? I don't see that going for anything less than $400.

Many people are calling it Playstation 2.5. It can also be referred to as Playstation: Xbox as it seems like thats what they are attempting to convert it to.
Many PS fans say that this isn't true, it is only taking the best parts of the xbox. And yet, initially, there were really no positive things said by the Playstation fans about the Xbox, so it makes you wonder a bit.

Everything that is in this PSX was planned for the PlayStation 3, and has been for some time (years). Originally the PS3 was going to encompass all the home theater/set top box features that Sony wanted, but then they decided to keep the PS3 as a dedicated gaming machine, and make a new line which would have all of these advanced features. Ren, of course there are biased people like that, but I certainly don't remember anyone complaining about the XBox's built in HDD and ethernet card.

I don't believe they were direct references. It was more along the lines of complaints that it was just a really big console that was simply a computer and was not worthy of being called a console.
Of course, these are not my words, simply what I've heard in the past. Interesting to think about though.

Yes well, people still joke about the size today The reason people called it a computer is not because of the hard drive and ethernet, but because it has a Celeron 700mhz with some P3 technology, and basically a GeForce 4 in it. Whatever the case, you won't hear many people talking about that anymore.

In one of the links, the individual put it well in prospective: Sony and Microsoft are going opposite directions with their consoles.
At first, Sony wasn't as flexible, but now with the PSX it will be more flexible than X-Box (On paper). Microsoft has not developed a keyboard or mouse for it because they don't see it as necessary.
