Across all platforms a game called "Tusker" for the Amiga 500 has to be the worst. You finished level one and the game just stopped. It was a bug in the final release and was never fixed
Of more recent games I would have to say Transport Giant. Heap of junk

I can't believe someone remembered that game. I now know we are most likely in the same age group or you're even older than me.

How about the Capcom franchise games for the NES. I remember they were so unbelievably hard, and they really were just a shell of their namesakes.
Landing the airplane on the aircraft carrier in Top Gun, to this day, is nearly the most frustrating game sequence of all time, second only to the refueling sequence. All that coupled with the inability to save and it's absolutely terrible.
And I don't think I knew anyone that beat Ninja Turtles 1.

I LOVED Capcom games
Mega Man > * in terms of NES games.
Landing in Top Gun was damn hard. I crashed a good 50-60 times before being able to do it. Same goes with refueling.
I beat Ninja Turtles 1. As a kid. No way in hell I could pull it off now.

Did them all Pwned Ninja Turtles, refueled my plane, landed the sucker and pwned Megaman.
But much harder game I remember was Contra. The original one. DAMN that was hard! But good.
The crappiest game I have ever played(I've played a lot of them and even liked them) has to be Battlefield 2.
You say "NO WAY!!!" but I say "ya way lolzor".
It's because it's so frustrating with it's idiotic engine, crappy code, infinite lag, UTTERLY RETARDED patches and gay game mode it has got to be in my CRAP of the century list.
BF2 is a brilliant game(in theory) and it's totally let down by being coded by monkeys. It's almost the same as having a lapdance but the ho is separated from you by a plexiglass wall.

I should have been more specific, I ment movie franchise games, not all capcom games. Mega Man is great.
Top Gun and Turtles are absolutely terrible, no way to shake it. When I was a kid, I convinced myself I liked them, because who didn't love Top Gun and TMNT? I remember firing them up in college and being blown away by just how bad they really arefrom a pure mechanics/gameplay standpoint they are just plain bad. And they really don't even resemble the movies/TV shows they are trying to, whatsoever.
Still, they have a kind place in my heart.
And I agree about Battlefield 2. It's one of those games which I really wanted to love, but just found it to be the most enfuriating experience in recent years. It's more waiting around than it is fun.

This is true. I still can' get it working on my XP system. The patches nearly always fail and then when it does patch it tells me my games modified. The people involved with it are muppets and you reminding me of it has just bumped it into my top 5

One that comes to mind was a Spider-Man game for the SNES. I don't exactly remember which one. I bought it used from a local video rental. It has to be the worst game I ever bought. Wait, that's not the worst. I just remembered it was a game for the PC where you could actually win 1 million bucks by completing the game. It was a Myst type game and I don't even think anyone won any money. It was game made back in the late 90s. I don't remember the name. I'll ask my friend, he was with me when I bought it. That game was horrible.

I think your thinking of Maximum Carnage.
As for me its a tie between Battletoads and Zork.
For different but equally annoying features.
Contra (all of them) are a close 3rd.
