stupid xbox repair woes
So back in november, RIGHT after I got mass effect, my xbox 360 died. RROD hardcore style. So I called up microsoft. politely told them what happened, and they said they'd have it back to me by the 21st of december at the latest. after several boxes ariving torn to shreds with the seals broken and huge labels saying "IF SEAL IS BROKEN DO NOT ACCEPT" I finally got it out and to microsoft. Then a few days ago I got my xbox back (so much for "before christmas") I turn it on, recover my gamer tag, and put in guitar hero 3. it immediately freezes and I get the RROD. I call back and get someone who promises that they are fed-exing a box next day delivery to me. I should get it tomorrow and I will "Most certainly" get a brand new retail xbox.
...in a month.
After this I got mad. I called back and got to a supervisor who told me that a) I would not receive a new console. I'd get a refurbished one. And then I would not have my live account extended for the nearly 3 months I've lost. AND that they would not send me a new console first. There would not be any expedited shipping, and that my box would arrive in a week. He did give me free controller chargers, which I didn't want but he gave them to me anyway.
I'm just so frustrated with the whole thing. I'd even effing put down a deposit for them to send me an xbox first and then I'd send them mine back. its just frustrating as all get out. And when he asked me what he could do to help make me less frustrated, I said "Well I'm losing nearly 3 months of live time here. Could you extend my account accordingly?" and he goes "no sorry I don't have the authority to do that. I can send you wireless controllers or charge kits but i cant extend your live account".
Honestly even if I couldn't get my live account time back, I JUST WANT MY XBOX! I went through the launch of mass effect (a game ive been play testing for over a year and anticipating for longer) my birthday, AND Christmas where i got several xbox games, and I CANT USE THEM! its infuriating.
What can I even do? Its going to be a month before I get my xbox back and its just really insane.
Has anyone else had this kind of experience?

Nope not had an issue, 4th box now, and each time I waited 2-3 weeks and got a 1 month gold card with my xbox when it returned.
Sorry you're having issues.

the simple fact that youve gone through 4 360s already speaks volumes about how god awful the system is.
in 18 years, ive had to replace a total of 2 consoles. 1 NES (which still works to this day) and an original PS2 which wouldnt play blu backed disks, everything else worked perfect.
id be more then a little pissed if i had to replace the same console 4 times in less then 2 years.

At least they didn't send you back the xbox360 without phoning you after waiting nearly 4 weeks that the xbox sent was tampered with saposedly and that the serial number on it was incorrect or ilegal or something...
now that pissed me off when that happened... bad enough that it took a combination of 9 hours on the phone to get them to "try" and send a damn box out to me.

My son has had to replace both of his 360s and the replacements have been much better products.....so far.
I have a nephew right now who is having to get his own 360 replaced. His went out right at Christmas right as he received several brand new games for it. He's really having a fit that he can't play any of his games while he waits for a month or so to get his console replaced.
But, yes, I do think MS includes a 30-day Gold Card with the replacement. So, that can be used at the end of the year to extend your Live account use for 30 more days.

Sorry to hear about your troubles Gemini. I've heard of people dealing with the situation similarly, so you aren't alone.

I'm on my 3rd Xbox and while build quality is crap, service quality is top notch.
The latest Xbox is quiet and feels nice. In addition, I barely waited 3 weeks (during the Xmas season so that's quite good) and I got a month of free Live
All's good

Microsoft needs a "Step Up" program so people doing RMA's can go up to the Elite version or whichever model doesn't have the RROD issue.

MS has been good to me even though the Xbox hasn't -both at home have had to be replaced, one of them twice!- and they have always sent me brand new replacements in the promised two week window. The ones we have now are working well (knock on wood!). Sorry to hear of your troubles tho, I'd probably try calling back a few times until I got someone with a heart.

an elite is just your standard 360, but w/a charcoal black housing, a 120GB HDD, and a bunch of other accessories. it's core components are not any different from any other 360 out there now since they are all now the rev. 2 of the 360 (HDMI support).
