I just spent the last two hours...
Playing Duke Nukem 3D!
With all this hype over the trailer, I thought I'd fire the game up and see how it handled.
Honestly, the game is still as fun now as it ever was. WHile the controls took some getting used to, and there really isn't any "story telling", the game is pretty amazing. The level design is beautiful, puzzles are still fun, weapons are great, the humor of course. What I'd forgotten was all the little things that made the game so great. Bottles that break, working pool tables, the environment, hitting on the ladies, the secrets, the corny one liners, all of it. The game is pretty timeless. Brings back some memories.
So, anyone else fired up an old game lately and were surprized on how bad/good the game was?

Pretty much been doing just that the last few weeks. I got the NES and SNES controllers to USB adapters, and play all my games on my 22" widescreen and they look amazing
And since they're all basically the same buttons, I can use the controllers for Gameboy/SEGA Genesis, so I'm a happy boy
Thinking about getting the N64 adapter too, but I've got enough right now

Some of the most enjoyable LAN games ever were with Duke Nukem 3D for sure.

grr... i liked duke nukem 3d..... but i don't have the game... i had it for a quick while.. but that was back in 97...
I want to get the game and get it working again... i've seen some shots where some people have managed to rebuild the engine with 3D acceleration...

DN3D was the first FPS I felt like (and did) finish it. Great game. Last time I played it must have been about 5 years ago. IIRC it was the first FPS game I ever played "online".
I hope the new one won't be much worse than it, but I have my doubts if I will live to see it.

i've had dosbox installed for months.. too bad i only played blood1 for a couple days.. been meaning to redo duke cuz it's so awesome, & i'm quite familiar with the engine (used to map a lot for fun) so i take extra enjoyment of the levels & interaction
now that i have ob, i should probably do hl1, hl2, & eps 1 & 2 (never did the eps before) all in a row
hl & duke are 2 of my top old games
speaking of trailers, did you see the 1999 dukeforever one, similar scripted engine tricks to duke3d

the duke franchis is way too overrated.
It was never really a good game to begin with (duke 3D). So who cares about its sequel. Although I hope everyone buys it, PC gaming needs as much as it can get right now.

actually Duke nukem 3d was the first and so far the only game i ever played in full virtual reality as well..
that was so cool... but i was such a newb at the time it took me pretty much the entire paid time that i was in virtual reality to get used to it....
the whole headset sucker and spinning around and the little itty bitty controls i had (basically same shape as a nintendo wii numchuck with a bunch of button and triggers on it for one hand use)
They had 4 full stalls, and well, it was just cool as hell... i was so young at the time that i was having a hard time keeping my head up with the weight of the damn headgear....
