True, but over on gaf people were squealing like the game didn't even touch anything beoynd the first core, so it's nice to see that it is

I honestly don't know, there is only one non FC game that is (Will be) powered by CryEngine, which is a MMORPG by NCsoft, and I don't think it's not for the lack of effort, after all Crytek updated the engine 4 times, adding things like HDR and full SM3 support along the way, I suppose as it wasn't created by a "western" dev team that many publishers stayed away, hell even Ubisoft went for Unreal 2/2.5 for their games in that period, criminal!

I hope it's true that the game isn't using both cores in dual core computers because that will provide a decent boost once they fix that

In fact, according to the ravenous mob that hides on neogaf, the 64bit Vista client doesn't do DX10 as well, could you confirm/deny that? as for the "optimization" thing, going by the main Crysis thread, it appears that the only people saying it are bitching at not getting 100fps on a X2 4200 with outdated cards, still, some testing would be cool, and after all, you have 8 cores, so you could easily test the differences

I'll post some pics myself later, and I may make a new gaming screenshot thread, if that's ok with you?

Well, it is Far Cry 2 (Well, obviously is ISN'T Far Cry 2, Ubi are making that, and that looks about as sick as Crysis, amazingly enough) :P

Right, a few of my own pics from Crysis, if anything I thought this would bring my new X1950 to its knees, both graphically and cooling/stability wise, good thing it only kicked my arse in one of those areas (ATi Tray tools reports it only got to 62Degrees at maximum during a quick go of Crysis, awesome).

Not sure how reliable this is: Quad-core is Crysis phwoar - The INQUIRER

Quote:
INTEL'S SPINNERS will surely be rubbing their hands in glee at the latest news to come out of the Crytek - ahead of the demo of Crysis, due to land tomorrow, Crytek's man in charge has revealed that a quad-core processor is top of his list of essential upgrades.
Cervat Yerli, who seems to spend more time talking to the press than actually working on finishing the game, revealed that on most systems, Crysis is likely to be CPU bound. "If [your system is] balanced, we are more CPU bound then GPU, " he told Shacknews. Crytek's Cevat Yerli on Crysis Tech - Shacknews - PC Games, PlayStation, Xbox 360 and Wii video game news, previews and downloads " Multi-core will be beneficial in the experience, particularly in faster but also smoother framerates... We recommend quad core over higher clock."
It's like a press release that writes itself, isn't it?
The game also supports operating under 64-bit Vista, and we are told that more memory - more than 4 gigs, that is, if you're counting - will "yield quicker loading times." We pretty sure that, for the moment, most people will be content to keep a few extra hundred quid in their pockets and wait a few extra seconds. etc.......

I have spoken to Cervat several times, and as you know we interviewed him on Gaming Heaven a while ago.

he told me that quad core is the ideal processor for Crysis rather than a higher clocked dual core ...... I think we DH'ers need to get some testing done on the forums.

If we could organise a benching thread to test performance on a wide array of machines with the same resolution and ingame settings it might be useful?

I'm up for it, as my CPU is highly overclockable I can also do some basic testing to see if clockspeed is important in Crysis, as well as comparing 1 core performance as compared to Dual core (Once I figure out how to disable one of the cores in games).

It will be good to see what makes a difference more in Crysis performance , and if you have access to one of the guys at Crytek, it might serve useful to them to know where optimisations could be useful.

N.B: And finally it would be a fun forum activity the only thing we need is either a set routine for playing, or a way of making a scripted run through the demo...

have a chat with chaosminionX, see if you can organise a thread, taking into consideration a usable resolution/game settings for everyone. perhaps even get a script made for a game pass section? just an idea.

I'll get right on it....tomorrow morning! I'm a slight bit tired and just about to hit the sack, so when I wake up I'll shoot off a PM to ChaosminionX and see what I can do, cheers!

Best I could do was 1680x1050 medium (some high settings) with 4xAA and got 40-50fps...on 64bit

Will be working on some settings, I need to wait till my rig is back together, I need more RAM

Oh. My. Zod. Very nice game. Can't wait...

1024x768 noAA Medium is smooth. I switch to 1920x1200, nice and sharp but sluggish. Then with 6AA, it crawls. Tried High and it turns into a slide show. Couldn't shoot the crabs on the beach.
I love the destructable environment. Grab the jeep, drive off the rock that's shapped like a ramp, land on the garage destroying it, jump out and get into a firefight with trees dropping around you, run into a building, enemies coming in from all sides, shooting up the place, everything breaking, glass shattering, bullets flying... wooooohoo...

i can run 1680x1050 max settings without fsaa, its just not playable in fights. i'd be up for a quad core benchmark

Well, it's working on both cores on my machine. Not sure why people said the game thinks dual cores are single core.
