This is a pretty good deal for a game as good as Farcry. I have not played it in a long time and no longer own a copy. There are so many new mods and maps that it is going to be nice to replay it on a decent rig and no crack needed.
Ubisoft has releases a bunch of good semi old games for free.

I went to download it from fileplanet and when I clicked on the download link it sent me to another page saying I needed a paid subscription to download it, so unless I can download somewhere else I wouldn't call it free.

You just need to register and then wait in line for a download slot on one of the public servers. If you want unregulated download speeds then you have the option of an annual subscription. Allot of people miss out on good stuff because of that page. If it is a paid subscribers only download then it will say so. I am one of the lucky millions who have a Comcast gamers package that come with a free subscription as long as I have Comcast.

The only advertising I saw in the thirty or so minutes I played was during the loading of the level. It actually makes you want to be cautious because the ads also appear when you have to respawn. The content is loading while the ads display so it is not like it is a whole separate part of the game. I am totally against this with paid games and do everything to avoid games that include advertising. This is free and they are non intrusive so what the hell.

One thing is I do not think you can play this online because when I tried it asked for a keycode. It just came out so we will see if a key is available soon. I hope so or it will be uninstalled real quick. Multiplayer is the best part about this game because as good as it looks the graphics look a little dated even at ultra quality.

Just so everybody knows, this version will not allow you to play online. I tried a valid key on a valid Ubi account. It lets you browse servers and then when you try to join it gives an error loading content popup. Most likely they made the retail version incompatible with this version. Oh well, it is still a free few hours of gameplay with a decent game that runs really well. Now if I can figure out a way to use the unofficial 1.41 patch on this version it will be golden.

Thanks for the heads up >GSXR<mrbusa and the links all - I played Ghost Recon a little years ago, own Far Cry (still haven't finished though...) and would like to see Prince of Persia and Rayman. Nice fit too for my Athlon and 9600XT machine!

but, thats just what i heard, i installed the game and the most recent official update, but it just exited back to my desktop at the loading screen

i'll get around to reinstalling it sometime or another.....

The free version is already patched to 1.4 and is not compatible with the retail version, so as of now I haven't seen anybody play this version on line.

Well, got around to finally attempting installation last evening and got a message after agreeing to the license that it wouldn't work 'cause I don't live in the US. Double-checked the account I set up at Ubi.com and I was ok, so I made a support request and here is the response:

As of Sept. 6th at 4:00pm, the Fileplanet ad-supported free game trial is over and no additional registrations will be accepted. If you have not yet been able to activate the game, unfortunately it will not be possible for you to do so. Thank you for participating in this trial. Please be on the lookout for additional opportunities at Fileplanet.com to download free games

Sept. 6th? Huh? Oh well...

I realize that this is a very old thread, but, I just now got wind of this via Gamershell.

In answer to 'any other free games?', just go to Gamershell and click on the "Today's Top 100 Downloads." It shows several freebies which have recently been posted:

Area 51
The Suffering
Full Spectrum Warrior

and others.

This one, FarCry, is also listed and I'm presently downloading it to see if it's still a 'trial' version as mentioned above.

EDIT/UPDATE: As far as I'm concerned, this one should be removed from any download sites. Once it starts the Installation, it asks for your UBIsoft Username and Password. I say, fergitaboutit!!

FINAL EDIT: This one absolutely should be removed from the download sites. It pays to scroll down to the 'fine print'.

The Suffering is quite intense. I've played a little bit of it but haven't gotten very far. I did finish Area 51.

So what's your overall opinion, does those in-game adds annoy you while playing? Cause free game sounds like a good deal but, that's all for nothing if adds bother you all the time.

Well, be sure to note that this particular game [Far Cry] is no longer free.

But, I've played through Area 51 completely, and I've played at The Suffering and Full Spectrum Warrior. These are AD-supported games. The ADs do NOT show up during the game. There is a brief, approximately 30-second video in a very small window at the game start up and, at times when you exit the game. You can quickly click and exit this AD and get right to the game.

I, personally, do not find it annoying in the least once I know how they're setup to work. And, since the game is completely free, what's to complain about?

Now, if this same small AD was popping up during game play, I'd say toss it out. But, that's not the case at all.

I just saw Far Cry at Futureshop for 9.99$ CAD. It's the DVD version, no ads, patchable (if it's not already up to date), 64bit-able (maybe) and multiplayer ready. I might pick it up even though i have the CD version just for the convenient 1 disc installations.
