I almost wet myself when I saw this thread title. Mafia was my all time favourite PC game, to say I can't wait for this would be an understatement.

Goal: Travel to where Zardon lives.
1. Repeatable drive past his house on a rare motocycle w/ a copy of this game.
2. Laugh myself to death as he chases me.

well it sucked in the fact it didnt show much of the actual ingame graphics but I was impressed with the facial GFX. I loved the whole plotline in the first, what a game.

I liked the trailer. It was kinda cool. Didn't show much IG but was definately worth watching. Funny little ad
I installed Mafia about a week ago. Played through it, felt urge for more open field massacre and also installed GTA SA Atm I'm on half way with both(2nd time with Mafia). Both really kick ass and I can't wait for GTA4/Mafia 2.

I haven't played any racing game since NFS3, but I think that the car simulation in Mafia is still the best out there.
I hope these two things will be possible in Mafia 2:
1. To crash into a car while gangsters are getting aboard. I think this is the most annoying thing in M1.
2. Jumping out of the car.

my biggest fear is they concentrate too much on the engine and the graphics and the game is rubbish. this has happened before.
are any of the original team still involved? anyone know?

It's being developed by the same (Czech ) company and (as far as I know) the same people.
edit: Including the "father" and lead designer of Mafia, Dan Vávra

TechPin » Mafia 2 Announced
The LS3D Engine supports the realistic rendering of large exterior environments and highly detailed interiors.
The effects used to create convincing environments include mirrors, real-time shadows, environmental mapping and deformations.
Mafia came with a unique feature: the cars have more than 100 parameters to adjust to imitate its real life double.
The action in Mafia 2 new third person 3D action game takes place sometime between 1940- 1950 in a similar fictional city and is promised to bring more gunshots, car chases, assassinations of persona non grata and bank robberies.
Christoph Hartmann, head of 2K, said that “As the original Mafia was a big success, we are excited to leverage the power of next generation console technology to create an all-new experience, while embracing the elements that resonated with the previous game’s fans. The ‘wow’ factor of Mafia 2 is definitely the benchmark-setting visual quality and action that you expect to see only in Hollywood movies.”
Mafia 2 will be available for PC, Xbox and Playstation 3 versions.

There was a interview with one of the M2 developers on a TV. I didn't see it but I'll translate the most important bits from one Czech M2 web:
- a lot of M2 stuff is finished
- release date is second half of 2008
- something about "console release priority"
Not much of a news but at least something...
