Xbox 360 HDDVD question...

Okay guys, I know "some" of you must own the HD DVD accessory for the Xbox 360 and I was wondering, if you could answer a question I have...

I know that HD DVDs are zone free but the the Xbox 360 itself is zone locked for games and regular DVDs. I was wondering, can you play for example a Zone 1 DVD on an Xbox 360 Zone 2 but via the HD DVD drive?

In other words, does the HD DVD drive make the Xbox a multizone DVD player? Because if yes, there's a huge sale going on right now (from 250$ to 150$) and I really would like an upscaling DVD player...

I would HIGHLY suggest you look into the Oppo DV-970Hd upscaler for $150. It came in second to a $3,500 unit.

In addition, that player looks perfect! DivX and USB is exactly whta I'm looking for... Damn it!

You can't import it?.. shame.. its an amazing player. In fact, there is a firmware hack that's simple to do that bypasses DRM over Component and you can upscale using component!

No, the HD-DVD drive will not play normal DVD's from other regions.

Thanks Veridian... Oh well I might still buy it, 100$ off nonetheless!

I could but the shipping would be expensive (outside the Euro zone here) and I'd need a transformer / adapter and all in all, if it has problems I can be screwed over...

I'll look around here, must be some other decent upscalers!

The Pioneer DV-696AV is a very decent upscaling dvd player that won't cost you too much.

Sandok, all this talking about a upscaling DVD player got me to go out looking for one locally, I ended up picking up a Samsung HD-870. And I must say for the price (I payed 85 euro) I'm very impressed by it, the colours are very good, not at all excessive or blend as they can sometimes be with cheap DVD players. The skintones looks very realistic and the upscaling works really good, plus the player itself looks very good imo.

Ya! I saw that player on sale a few days ago, went recently and bam, it was gone In the end, I settled for a Thomson player and it's decent enough, nice looking and upscales okay (some niggles but hey, I paid 100CHF) but damn, wish I got the samsung one!
