Your favourite PC RPGs
In no particular order
Arcanum
Fallout 1+2
Temple of Elemental Evil
Phantasie III
Amberstar
perhaps Oblivion.
Ishar
Ultima 8 Pagan
Hard Nova
I do not consider games like Diablo or other arcade game with some RPG elements as true RPGs, that's why I am still not sure about Oblivion.
What's in your list?

Same thing, not in any particular order:
Neverwinter Nights (this is at the top of this list for a reason, btw )
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Knights of the Old Republic
Icewind Dale
Baldur's Gate 1 & 2
Divine Divinity
Might and Magic: Dark Messiah
Planescape: Torment
Wizards & Warriors
Wizardy 8
Ultima VII: The Black Gate
Diablo 2
Dungeon Seige
Arcanum
BTW, you say you don't believe games like Diablo are 'True RPGs', however Ultima 8 was, in effect, a complete departure from the traditional Ultima gameplay style for something more Diablo like. In fact, it was also one of the things die hard fans hated about the game (while it wasn't one of my favorites, I did enjoy the game though).
There's still a lot more going way back that I enjoyed like Eye of the Beholder, and the original Might & Magic.

I was never a follower of the Ultima series so I couldn't care less for how different it (Pagan) was from the rest of the series :-p I enjoyed it very much, thus it is there. :-p
There are several other older (not modern) RPGs that were very good, but I wouldn't call them my favourites, that's why not here.
Richy, while Monkey Island was a great game, it was a pure Adventure game, not an RPG No harm done though.
Funny story, just tried to install Oblivion, my system doesn't recognises the disc at all. Nice...
GutterPunk, you should try Arcanum if you like RPG games. I highly advice to play it on the turn based mode than the real time which kinda sucks IMO.
It is a long, interesting RPG with a lot of things to do. Interesting endings too. (depends on how you play the game)

I saw an advert in a magazine like 7-8 years ago and fell in love with it. I then waited and waited on its delayed release and frankly forgot about it. I may try to find it here soon.

No, definetely not.
The term adventure goes to games that are for lack of a better word, slow. Usualy there is no pressure of time and you usualy are not in risk of getting killed. Also by 99.9% there are no action (real time avoid, kill, anything that depends on how fast you will move your mouse/joystick/joypad). You have plenty of time to choose what to do next and a failure to do the right thing to progress in the game does not usualy bring you to your death. Examples of Adventure games are Monkey Island, Leisure Suit Larry, Myst type of games (I still call them glorified puzzle games but everybody else has accepted them as adventures), Syberia, The longest day, etc.
GutterPank if you do get Arcanum, whatever you do, install the latest patch before you play the game.

Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Final Fantasy VII
Diablo + Hellfire expansion
Diablo II
Ultima Underworld II
Wizardry Gold
I swear every time an elderscrolls game comes out it's either a major video card update or a new PC update or both LOL. If I were to pick one it would definitely be Morrowind. Too bad you can't fly or use mark/recall in Oblivion unless they changed that. Ah good, I'm not the only one that likes Ultima Underworld 2.

Guild Wars has been a favorite for a long time.
WoW is a good game, but I don't play enough to justify a monthly fee.
The Elder Scrolls series, especially Morrowind.
Diablo 1 and 2 are great, though I don't play them anymore.
Other than that, emulation can be great to play all the old PS and PS2 games i have lying around.

Too bad emulation games are not included in the mix, b/c Chrono Trigger would take the cake on that one.

Runescape. Flame away, I dont care, even though I cant get back into it anymore ( I try from time to time)
I played on and off for 5 years from the day it was released. It is not the same anymore (perhaps it is for people who havent played it yet), but I can not get back into it like back in the old days.
Yes, it is slow paced and requires alot of time (another reason why I quit, its like crack), but in my oppinion there has never been a more complete rpg, mmo, or mmorpg.
On the other hand, my other favortes have been:
-Morrowind
-Oblivion (cant stay interested for very long for some reason)
-and Diablo 2 (even though it doesnt really count)

Well, that rig should run RS without lagging, even in high detail.
Tempted to try ArchLord (free) especially as it seems to be one of the few that do not have the awful gameguard, a system-intrusive cheat/hack protection.
Though from the reviews, it sounds like Archlord has even worse grind than Runescape.
Also thinking of getting into (under development) Planeshift.
What I want from an MMORPG:
1. No Gameguard, or other intrisive protections
2. Free mode
3. Quests
4. Uncomplicated character development
5. Uncomplicated item/resource production
6. Ability to progress with or without NPC/Player trading
7. Balance of found / made / bought items
All MMORPG's have a significant grind element, grinding to get levels, grinding to get cash, grinding to get a superior drop. What would be nice is some "instant play" servers, where you could get anything, be any level, but not save anything - in the case of Runescape, This would be Moparscape / Hybridscape unofficial servers - just DON'T use your real RS user/pass, as while they all SAY they won't steal it... well!

Hah, I would hope so. I havent even tried logging on in a long time, cant get back into it.
To all the oblivion people, I played around with some different texture packs yesterday and REALLY got the game looking great. I will take some screenshots and post them in the appropriate thread (will post a link if this is not the right thread)
Here is a link to a decent screenshot, file is 5mb http://friendlyfiles.net/dw_up/907cf...18-65.bmp.html
Most of the in game setting are maxed out aside from grass distance. Anisotropic and antailiasing filtering are at 8x (forced aa and hdr), super sampeling transparencys, and trilinear minimaps.
Texture mods are Quarl's 3, Normal map replacements, something to get rid of the milky distant land, and one thats called 'nature' something.
