Had to happen sooner or later...
Well today my xbox 360 decided to crap on me, i got the famous 3 red lights and nothing i tried seemed to work, so back to retailer it goes. The manufactured date on it was 30-11-2005, so it was a first batch console, still it survived over a year without major problems. I don't want to deal with MS, so today after i leave work i'm gonna take it to my retailer and have it exchanged for a new one, i know the guys there well so it won't be a problem. I'm pretty pissed right now with the build quality of the console, buying a console and knowing that it will brick eventualy doesn't bode well for MS, it's an amazing console and live is an amazing online platform, but if MS don't fix these problems soon it may get pretty damn serious for them.

You mean to tell me that even after the warranty is out they will swap it out for free if it has a problem? My 360 had had a problem since day 1.Its with the cd/DVD player.I go to put a new disc in and sometimes I have to push the button 20,yes I said TWENTY times before it will start reading the disc.I push "close",it closes and re-opens.Again and again and again. On average 10 times before it fanally reads the game inside.

Well it's not all good or even bad news..i know ..ill try to explain. I wen't to the shop like i said hoping it would be easy to get a replacement ASAP..well..WRONG! The guy there told me that due to MS and Sony recent change of return policies regarding the "next gen" consoles that all replacements after the first 15 days of purchase were now dealt with directly by either company. So the guy gave me MS support # and wished me good luck...( ). Well anyways i got home and decided to try something i have been reading in a few sites, "the towel Trick"! For the guys that never heard of it the idea is to wrap your console in some towels so that the console basicaly overheats, this of course is supposed to be done on a console already dead (3 lights of doom). So let it heat up for 15/20 min then power off and let it cool down for another 15/20min. Well there was alot of people claiming this worked, there are even some videos on youtube about it so i decided to try it since i didn't have anything to loose. Well long story short, it worked! This is of course a temporary fix, this will not fix your console for good as i have seen today when i got the lights of doom again but i'm hoping it might hold up until they send me the box to send the console to MS. If all this doesn't make sense dont be alarmed i havent sleept shit last night...

In my country you get 2 years warranty for every electronic product you buy, even if it's a toster or mp3 player, doesn't matter. So i still have 1 year left. Anyways i called up MS support today and had a very interesting talk to a brasilian lady that works there. i got some nice feedback regarding this bizzarre mass failure of the xbox 360. From what i got from the talk there are some major design problems with the console that is causing these hardware failure, it's not the 3 to 5% failure number that MS is reporting, it's way more then that, but that's not like anyone hasn't come to that conclusion yet, but it was weird getting the info from someone at MS...well anyways i should get the console in 1 or 2 months..f'in insane...
