C&C3 problems
I am trying to help out a friend here. we are over in iraq and i just bought C&C3 and a bounch of us wanted to play it. i have installed the game on his laptop. i have tryed versions 1.0 and 1.04. both versions load fine after the game loads and it asks you to press play to start the map. the game crashes and gives me a cnc3game.dat erorr. here is his PC specs.
Intel Pentium M 1.73
512mb PC2-4300
XP home
Realtek RTL8139/810x
Moblie intel 915GM/GMS,910GML Express
HP 82915PM/GM/GMS, 82910GML
Hopefully someone has had the same problem. I am not sure if maybe his laptop isnt powerfull eoungh to run it. any help would be great thanks.

Dude, too bad for ya. Mobile Intel chip really isn't the most powerful thing that could run it. CC3 needs a pretty decent PC and a laptop is a no go. Sorry to tell you that.

I understand that the intel chipset isnt the best but that is what my friend bought. i am using a laptop that has a intel M 2.26, 2gb PC2-5300, and a GeForce Go 7800 GTX. which i am running the game at 1680x1050 with everything maxed out and 4xAA and 8xAF with no problems. So a laptop can play the game pretty good. All i want to know is if there is away to fix the problem he is having so that he can play the game on lan with us. he doesnt care if it is at the lowest settings he still gets to play it.

My guess is that Moblie intel 915GM/GMS,910GML Express is not powerful to run the game. Here are the minumum specs. Sorry.

if that was the case wouldnt the game not even load and then give some kind of error saying that the video needs to be better.

That's not necessarily true unless he's actually able to play on one of the maps before it crashes. Do you both have game cds or is he using a crack? The crack was causing the same dat error for me and going back to the dvd fixed it.

well it isnt the intel chipset because Skirmish mode works fine. i have also tryed both ways with a crack and without a crack on both versions 1.0 and 1.04 both of which dont work same error, so it must be a game problem then because if skirmish mode works i can't see it being a PC problem. When he plays in skirmish mode he can play at 1024x768 with with close to everything on med.

Is this a legal copy of the game or a warez/iso/whatever version?

The cncgame.dat error is a prob with the game, a memory leak I think it is. They're suppose to fix it in the next patch which has been delayed for the past month, but it's suppose to be out at the beginning of next week so that should fix your problem. But EA never said anything about fixin it in the patch notes so yea. My friend has the same issue, we can't keep a game goin online because his game crashes damn near every time. If you're willing though, turning down the graphics can reduce the crashes, especially turning down the shader, but the games just so pretty.

BlueMak to answer your question it is a legal copy. VectorMan it is nice to see someone else is having the problem to hopefully it does get fixed. i wonder why i dont have to the problem but he does. I have put something like 10 hours of game play into it and it hasnt crashed for me once.

This doens't have anything to do with a legal copy or not.
I've got a legal copy and had the same problem.
When i start GDI Missions and click on 'play' after the loading has finished, the games just crashed.
This also happens after a couple of minutes while playing skirmish mode.
The answer to this problem is quite simpe.. Just set your 'shaders' option to Medium instead of Low. (you can find it in you video options).
Once you have done this, your problem should be fixed
Game on!

While I am glad you found a solution, my question was valid. If someone has a non legal copy it is possible that files are older than release files, or there are files missing. In which case A)I would have no desire to help him B)If the problem was caused by one of the above it would be a waste of everybody's time to find a solution, including the original poster.
