wow whoa..dudes/dudettes~!
i thought the problems only were with xp! but didnt have a clue about vista- nothing better here- i just hope these guys will release a nice HUGE FIX ( i dont care how big of a file 1gb- no worries i dont care) - as long as my $50 can be justified.
all of this get over it business- no way- $50+ i love games alot and this one seems to have a great concept and a great layout- visuals etc- my buddy told me the endings were not really worth the squeeze...so i wonder...this company basically worked on it for a bit..got fed up and released it. now yes, games take a long time to make (code, testing etc etc)- but- atleast have the game in good running condition and polish it later- dont release someting with crazy crazy bugs- lackluster plot - and too many questions with no answers due to bugs crashes and freezes. Im not a fan of Doom 3 - but it runs. i really didnt like postal 2- but it ran and whatever the makers wanted to show- displayed it. basically - if your making a bad meal- atleast finish it. (and VALVE pls fix source!! )i can only give this game a 5/10 so far- but with hope and with patience it can be boosted to at LEAST A 7-8.5/10...I HOPE! Game on! |

well grammar doesnt mean much- who cares- its actually what he/she is expressing what is important. yes this game has tonns of potential- but for $50 i dont want potential, unless im investing in somethin- but a game after waht 6-7yrs of production>? = should be as close to great (atleast) as possible.
taking so long to run a game (in a nice condition) shouldnt be something you have to get "used to" - yes games tht are released are never- ever- perfect- but at least they are complete (and they run) i personally couldnt bother with this game right now until mayhaps a patch is released that addresses the big issues- not MP (who cares about MP)- that obviously was created just a bit before release to show they are working on it..youd think if they knew that the game had huge flaws in it- a release on SP would have been done first?- yeah so, time to play Oblivion (thank god its not on source!) - which yes, has bugs- and is still being work on- but it kicks alot of @55!! game on- but i hope that stalker is ironed out because it does have a great idea! This game S.U.C.K.S.
Uninstalled after 1 week. Not because it was buggy (it was) but because I had more fun reading up, watchiing movies, and studying screenshots of this game for 7 years than playing it. Biggest disapointment of the decade. Not fun.

Why do people keep bringing up SOURCE? This game isn't on the source engine. That aside, I rather like this game. I really like the sense of isolation it imparts and I love the way the weapons look and sound (and handle). It's actually tough to score long-range shots and rate of fire really plays a big part. I do wish they'd made the currency system a bit more useful/important, as I haven't really found much use in trading. I've scavenged every bit of equipment I have and actually only spent money once to load up on some ammo, and I'm pretty sure I could have gotten by even if I hadn't. The game runs rather well on my system, everything on max. I haven't encountered very many bugs either; just lucky I guess.

I restarted the game now that I know what to do.
I finally know how to Trade/do missions. Game is very enjoyable now At first I thought it was a bad purchase, but it is worth it now.BTW it can even bring a 8800GTS 640mb to a crawl

Anyone here try that shader mod that was released recently? I loaded it up but didn't really notice much difference. As far as I know, I put it in correctly. Also, has anyone had any trouble with getting the in-game AA to work? I run it at 1440x900, max settings yet it seems that no matter what setting I use it won't implement the AA.

I got a notice from Gamespot today about that mod..(Shadow of Chernobyl Float32 v0.36a Mod) here's a screenshot with soft shadows and AA on..
http://tinyurl.com/2qa6n9 You should see a improvement since its fixing that AA problem you're having. You might want to check your install method. |

Nice pic, I installed the shader mod and so far things do seem a little smoother. I haven't tried AA yet.

Why is this not official?

If you are using dynamic lightning, then AA won't work because of STALKER'S rendering method (deferred rendering/shading).
The structure is supposed to look like this: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow of Chernobyl\gamedata\shaders\r2 But don't forget to edit the fsgame.ltx! The 2nd line has to be changed to this: $game_data$ = true| true| $fs_root$| gamedata\ And you have to use DX9 rendering (dyn. lightning)! Anyway, in my case this mod seems to have no effect (concerning framerate) as well. Oh and if you're using an ATI card, delete that shadow.h file in the r2-folder. That is indeed how I have it set up but, alas, I also have high dynamic range on. What settings would you recommend for using the shader mod?
Thanx

WTF did the patch do to the damage from those fire anomolies? I used to be able to run through them and lose 1/4 of my health or more but now it's instant death. This is pissing me off.

I'd recommend using the user.ltx from the archive. Just replace your binds, enable EAX, V-Sync and 60Hz (force TripleBuffering via driver or 3rd-party tool!). Plus, try disabling sun shadows as it can be a big performance hog even on high-end rigs. If it runs fine with these settings, raise texture and objekt detail then test and raise view distance, shadow quality and perhaps even light distance. Just leave those AA and AF sliders to the far left and force (8x-16x/HQ) AF via driver/3rd-party tool! You can also try the /largeaddressaware-modification of the X3_RDA.exe, which reduces or even eliminates CTD's and can improve framerate/reduce stuttering. Greetz Popopinsel |

I beat STALKER... in a half assed manner. I pretty much went straight for Chernobyl as soon as I could and didn't do any of the side quests involving factions nor getting any of the good armor or weapons.
To make a long story short, I ended up with no health packs or radiation meds stuck there (you can't go back) so it was either start the game over again or cheat so I did the latter and used unlimited health to survive long enough to make it to the Wish Granter. It's not like Oblivion where you can continue after finishing the main storyline. Do not even think of going to Chernobyl without some serious radiation protection or you'll be screwed.
