I had a really great time playing last night. I was getting pretty bad memory leaks and then some weird video issues (strange colors and glowing effects). I closed out, OCed my GPU a small bit, and restarted. The memory issues were gone and the game was running smoother than ever.

First off, I have had allot of fun so far. What I really like is the people who turn this game into a run and gun will not win. If you buy bad ass weapons and armor to soon and you do not recoop your cash before dieing, then you have no chance. That also makes it hard for people to join a match in progress and do very well. If you do join in progress you have to pick and chose who you engage until you can afford a decent weapon and make sure you have the kill before engaging if that person has killer equipment.

Issue 1.) I myself do not have a big fluctuation is latency on any of the servers. Most people do though and more players than not are saying it is unplayable for them. I created a ten player server and witnessed first hand that even players that were relatively close to me had pings like they were from the UK. I have yet to see any info on the exact ports that need to be forwarded to run a server and I am not sure if that could be the problem or not.

Issue 2.) When my server changed maps or restarted the game after a completed match it crashed 100% of the time. It would let everybody ready to play and then get stuck. Total crash , and I couldn't exit the game. I had to hard boot three or four times and now I am scared to run a server in fear of system wide data loss if I have to hard boot to many times. As long as the server was running there was not one issue other than most players having high latency. My latency was stable between 5ms to 10ms which was weird to because usually on my own server with other games my latency is 0ms. My connection is 8mb/768kb cable, but is usually faster than that if I measure throughput, so I don't see how that could be the problem with only ten players. I tried with the windows firewall off and with the game having firewall exceptions and it ran the same. I did not try turning off my router firewall and do not want to or should I have to. I hope that " whoknows can post the exact ports that need to be open to run a server.

Issue 3.) Certain advanced graphic settings are randomly greyed out and cannot be changed until my system is restarted and even then restarting doesn't always fix it.

Issue 4.) My crosshair will sometimes disappear and I will have to restart the game to get it back. It sucks if I am doing well and it is a tight game and then I lose my crosshair.

I am running the official 7.2 catalyst drivers, just the drivers, with the latest Ati Tray Tools beta 1.26.100 and the latest DirectX 9.0c Feb redist update.

naw.. i was running around not shooting anything, hell i was dieing while trying to take slick screenshots of things.... also still having the issue where the game initially loads with a highly unstable and unplayable framerate, but after about 2 minutes to 5 minutes, the game just takes right off and is smooth as silk again.

I'm hopefully going to play this weekend. I haven't bothered to install it yet because I'm picking up my new system parts this afternoon. Hopefully tomorrow sometime I'll have some 8800 GTS goodness going on!

just hit W after you have selected a gun, and it will buy 1 box of ammo for that gun everytime you hit it. when you have selected a gun, and its image appears on the upper right hand side of the screen, you can see little icons in the box with the image. there you can buy ammo or a scope, etc.

in the beginning, i always forgot to hit OK in the buy menu, and i would just hit esc, and go running off with just my pistola.

Ok so I give up.

I got the client loaded -check, entered the code - check, set my graphics options - check, configured my keys -check, went to the server selection picked a server pressed ok and up popped the load screen -check, so upto this point all's going well, I drunk a redbull and kablam back to the server selection screen, odd.
Tried again with about 15 servers hmmm same thing, so I exited to desktop to be met with 'this XXXX program is trying to blah blah blah, ok so I allow it access and try again, tried 10 servers this time all did the same then booted me to the server selection screen - by this point that god awful music is pissing me off and the redbulls got me bouncing on my seat. I resign myself to the fact it's not meant to be and go watch UFC instead.

Today I decide to give it another try, load it up pick a half full server and bam back to the selection screen. What the hell is going on? At the moment the only way I can try this game is to set up my own server and as most people will attest playing with yourself gets a bit boring after a while .

Any suggestions apart from the firewall, antivirus which i've tried?

hi guys,
i have the beta already from somewhere else, anyhow i keep getting a fatal error because the game is looking for the xray models on my D:\ Drive, which is my cd drive (the beta is installed on my C:\)
I have a print-screen cut out of it

i get what looks to be the same thing as that quite often. its an ammo buying glitch from what i can tell.

if you buy a box of ammo for your gun, when you drop it in the inventory screen and it doesnt show an ammo count on it, do not buy a second box. if you do it will crash the game and prompt a warning like that. just buy what you have and head out. if you want more ammo go back into the buy menu for a 2nd time and pick up how ever many more boxes you want.



as of this afternoon, ive been haveing a constant problem with my crosshairs. they just dissapear and do not appear again. the only way i can get them to show back up is to go into the options menu, Game tab, and deselect and reselect the Show Crosshairs option and then hit Use.

oh this is fun... found hte first hacker

he has both some kind of wall hack, and bullet pierceing hack. i was just playing artifact hunt and was on the blue team. as soon as any of us walked out side of the buy zone we were killed. the entire other team told us he was hacking. we kept being killed buy the 2nd tier shotgun i beleive. from what i can tell he was sitting inside the their buy zone and killing us from there.


must be hes not quite in the buy zone, since hes 53-2.

I'll have to try it again later when some North Americans are on. Even with a 125 ping I felt like I was floating when moving. I didn't get all my parts in for my new PC, so I'm playing with the one in my profile.

Ok just finished playing the beta, so here goes my feedback.

So far i haven't found any real bugs with the game. Sure it needs optimizing, but hey, it's a beta. About the graphical performance i was able to play the game at 1440x900 with ingame graphics maxed out including AA and AF with really stable frame rates and really no slowdowns. Thing is i achieved this using the static lighting render, if i tried to use any other lighting render the game came to a full stop no matter what ingame options i turned down. I know my system is no where top of the line but i think they really need to optimize there lighting render. BTW system is P4 2.8c - x800xtpe - 1 gig ram. I hear people complaining about not beeing able to turn AA during the game, i have found that AA only works with the static lighting render and not with the other ones, this is possibly due to performance.

Update: encountered the buying ammo bug that was reported before.

It's DX9.... I'm quite sure it's DX9 You can't do half those effects in DX8.

I just needed to ask, is the Stalker Beta soley multiplayer, or is there some singleplayer mode? Because I'm having trouble finding a description.

I'm a little disappointed at the lack of talking in game. I don't think people have found the chat button(s) All ',' Team '.'.

Otherwise I love the atmosphere but, I am not really digging the multiplayer hopefully the single player game will have a story that I will want to play. The multplayer is a bit too ridged, and I haven't even been able to buy a good weapon yet. To be honest, I do not like the Counter Strike style buy your weapon stuff.

People usually don't talk in the game because the defaults for Talk and Team Talk are strategically place so you can't find it, even be accident.

One you get better gun and start upgrading the game gets really run fast. They are really balanced too (the guns not the spawn campers). There was this silenced submachine gun I got for the rebel side and though it only had like 25 shots (maybe 20) it fired so fast and was so accurate it was easy to just run and gun killing one person at a time. The only thing was the reload was long and it ran out of bullets fast.

There is also a sniper rifle on there that I haven't been able to afford yet. It looks kinda futuristic.

wouldn't work for me until I upgraded to the latest AIW drivers, try swapping up and down, you never know.

I hope people never find the voice chat keys.
If this game turns into a teenage voice chat, CSS, dirty diaper fest, then I want nothing to do with it. It would be even better if it was eliminated all together.

Well after playing the MP a bit more i will get this game for sure. The performance i got was really acceptable for a beta so SP can't be worst and i really like the interface and the weapon upgrade system, found it really simple to use and initialy i was worried about that. Averall a really good game. Bring out the full game, i'm sold.

when i try to load stalker, all that happens is a black screen shows up, and than the audio of the game turns on.. but there is no image or anything...
than after a while it gives me a fatal eror >.<

when the map first starts, there is a 1 minute long intro round or whatever they call it. you can access the buy menu, but it says you have no money. no worries, you can still buy everything. so pick a rocket launcher or expensive rifle and try to get a kill in the next 50 seconds. sure, you wont get it when you respawn, but i certainly dont earn enough money in the game to afford those guns.

i am having a really wierd problem, the sky is bright yellow green.
The game also is going really slowly, and i dont think it should, thats why it is a beta...

does anyone know about the green sky thingy?
