Doom3 on pre-sale at EBgames...10/31/03
That's "Halloween this year" for those of you who hate numbers. I just got the heads up off of Raptorman over at nVnews and thought I'd best spread the happy around.
Hey, does this deserve a front-page news bullet or what?

That means if I build a computer with the latest parts on 10/30/03 it'll actually run!

Pffffft.
It ain't all that bad...I'm pretty sure a 2Ghz+ w/9700 Pro could do the game justice...and by that time they won't cost that much either.

A friend of mine has a Athlon XP2200, 1 gig of ram, and GeForce 4 4600, and he barley gets 20fps in the alpha! That is with no physics.
It's an intense game.

It would sometimes spike to around 30 or 40, but in any fight in slammed down to 8 or 9 FPS!
They will probably make some improvements in the Beta and final stages. I'm sure it'll run on a lot of PC's when it comes out.
I can only hope that I have new PC by then.

Sorry, that one is me.
No, I'm a bit screwed up with e-mail right now. They killed my DriverHeaven e-mail about 3 minutes after I left staff (I should have seen that one coming, but didn't....just a dumb blindspot ), I'm dumping my hayho@surfnetinc.com e-dress as of 3/8, and I haven't quite set-up the new e-mail accounts yet. Add to that my inability to send e-mail thru Netscape 3.0 (my e-mail client of choice, SHUT UP! ) ever since adding the router and it makes it tricky. I still have my digitalwanderer@elitebastards.com e-dress, and I like Mozilla's e-mail client and am planning on getting that all set-up and pretty in the next day or so...'til then I've just been ignoring the world and enjoying meself with my kids. (Hey, I deserve it. )
EDITED BITS: More importantly, they've been enjoying it and THEY deserve it.

Yeah, its just a friggin alpha. chill ppl! iD just assembled a running demonstration of the game to run on a specific system.
But You might wanna try this in case you havent been able to run it at all or extremely crappy performance:
Pull down the console, then type r_use + <tab>.
A list should come up w/ all the r_use* values that the renderer uses. Default is NV20 if I remember correctly (been a while since I tried it). If You got a 9700 pro or equal, You might wanna set NV20 to '0' and default OpenGL to '1'. No need to restart the alpha, renderer reads these values right away.
Hope it works for those who need it.
Have fun til the game arrives!
