A Cure for FLATOUT 2 Game Freezes...
At least for the past 24 hours I haven't had another one. However, not long after installing the game I started having freezes that happened mostly whenever there was a big collision in the game ... one that would launch the driver through the windshield. The only way to get out of it was to hit the Reset button on the computer.
Well, after several other things: Set Affinity; set back the Memory from Speed Racer to Turbo; DiskCheck and Defrag.....all of which did nothing to help, I finally did a Windows XP Repair installation. Then went ahead and did all the Updates. I haven't had any more game freezes since. I also did not have to reinstall the game. So, if you resort to this, be sure you do the Windows XP REPAIR. This game is everything I had hoped for with very, very few exceptions. It's just a load of FUN!!!

There are issues with the game and dual cores and it probably affects HT P4's as well. For example, on AMD X2's, the game will freeze on collisions/stunt mini games unless you install the MS Hotfix or the amd dc optimizer. Fun game though

I have an issue where everytime I exit the game I get an error that says,"flatout2.exe encountered a problem and must close". Sometimes the MS error reporting tool asks to send an error report and sometimes it's the game itself that reports the error. It happens about 9 out of 10 times.
Occasionally, it will also leave me with no taskbar upon exit. This happens about 1 out of 10 times. It does this regardless of running it normally or using a NoCD crack. I'm not running a dual-core......

I can say that, after 48 hours since doing the Windows Repair, I have had no issues at all with the game. I know I shouldn't be too giddy, though. But, there are no issues at all for two days now.
I just got into some online games and haven't had any problems. Even though I do have a H/T CPU, I'm not using any patches or even doing the 'set affinity' thing anymore. I'm almost to the point of believing that the game install did something to some system files and that those files need to be restored to their authorized condition. It's the only thing that makes sense to me at this point. BUT, the game is absolute mayhem and some of the most fun I've had with a game in a long time. I hope we can get some DH members together in a race soon. Although, so far, I don't see anyway to restrict access to a server via password or such.

I actually had a CTD during SP early this morning. I found, however, that the culprit is the XBCD drivers for my XBOX 360 Controller. So, I've sent a notice over to RedCloud about this and hope it can be fixed in an update.
I'm also hoping for a patch that can limit who can enter a hosted game. There are some real nutcases getting on the games right now. I had one 'juvenile' driving a school bus the wrong way on the track and intentionaly doing head-on collisions. So, the game needs a good kick and ban feature.

I installed it last night - its very impressive graphically and I was very pleased to see it ran exceptionally smoothly at 1920x1200 with 4aa and 16af with everything maxed. Granted its a 7900 GTX sli rig, but still ive seen games like this judder about like a madman.
I havent really been reading about this game much nor have a played it much either, but it is basically just a racing game isnt it ? For some reason I thought it was like a destruction derby type game, having to basically wipe out all your opponents etc. |

There is actually demolition derby tracks (Figure 8, for example) and others where you can see if you can be the last one still driving. So far, though, like you said, the game is as smooth as can be. I think I saw only one instance of a slight stutter in one online session. It was as quick as a blink of the eye and I almost missed it. Depending on how you want to race, it can be done as a 'clean race' or with all the bumping and grinding you desire. I'm using my USB XBOX 360 controller and it's a real dandy to use with this game. (But, if you want rumble feedback, you need to get the XBCD drivers for it.) And, as some of the others have mentioned, there are some side games that are simply a hoot to play. (Although, I'm not nearly as pleased with the new high jump in this one as I was in the original. I couldn't get enough of the first one and this one just doesn't have the appeal for me.)
