Unreal 2 brings my Ti-4200 to its knees

I can't believe it. I bought this card last summer and before aging to its first year, my Ti-4200 has become nearly obsolete with Unreal 2. Just to play with some decent framerates, I had to turn down all effects to at least medium and had to tweak around a lot in the .ini files found under Unreal2/System.

When the battle gets intense, the framerates drop really quick and I'm walking around the map stuttering. Is this the Ti-4200's limitation or is it some quirk with the Unreal 2 engine. This makes me wonder if I'll be able to play Doom 3 even in its 800x600 resolution?

Yea that is rather strange...check my rig in my signature. I have the game at near full detail and the game runs nice and smooth. I havn't had any choppyness unless it was right at the beginning of a game while a level was still loading.

Dude, it's your ram holding you back. You need faster ram.

I would agree with DriveEuro but I'd like to justify it.

Pentium's have always preferred RDRam over DDR ram, notice how all reviews of anything with an Intel chip use RDram. It used to be a deep dark secret that Intel didn't want to reveal, but the new chips (around 2.6 ghz and above) seem to hold their own much better than their predecessors with DDR now, while still favoring RDram.

Seeing as you have one of the sub 2 ghz pentiums, it most likely is your ram thats holding you back. Rather than trying to get a new motherboard and ram for that cpu, I would suggest getting a 2 ghz p4 or above with new ram and motherboard. This is for the reason that you don't want to be catering to the needs of your current processor as it would just be better to get a new cpu with a better mobo all together.

If money is an issue, well you could try tweaking the ram timings and that will get you a bit more out of it. Also, try raising the FSB to push more mhz out of the cpu.

Yeah, the best Intel for overclocking is supposed to be the 2.2 or 2.4.....I can't remember
