f.e.a.r.'s fps degrade overtime

Does anyone experience a slow degrade in the fps while playing F.E.A.R. for extended use?
After about 15-20 minutes in game my fps will reach 20-30fps while when i started playing i got 60-70fps+.
Im using Windows XP x64 edition with the newest 64 catalyst drivers.

Don't know about F.E.A.R. but this happens to me in Oblivion...

Wonder if it's normal.

Dunno if U overclocked ur Vid.card ?, maybe after a full load at a longer time it could be overheated , check the Gpu temp if it happens.

i have a third party cooler on it which keeps it cool under load, no more than 60c ever. The degrade in fps happens fairly after the game is loaded.

I Used to play fear all the time,True it's rough on FPS but they should stay the same 10min into it or 45min in.Maybe turn down your settings a bit and of course update your display drivers.

PS-Wow my 100th post

Uhh im using the newest drivers. Catalyst 6.4 Windows XP Professional x64 Edition.
Also I set my graphical settings to Minimum, as low as it can go, and still 10-15minutes in a game my fps will drop to 20fps!

it's as though a certain movement or action in the game will cause the drop to 20 frame rates. like jumping up a set of boxes will cause the glitch. the only way to recover is to restart the game.
are there any third party drivers for x64 xp that are better than ati's blah ?

Wierd i never experience dramatic framedrops in FEAR ,monitoring with fraps is goes up an down a little , down when the game get crowded it drops then to +/- 50 Fps
the average is about 60 Fps.
But with the latest patch v1.03 the game play is significant improved, all game vid. settings are maxed out after aplying this patch.

And i only use a humble Sempron X32 , and a Asus Xtreme AGP 6600 GT
Mem /Core 1.1 Ghz / 550 Mhz, all stock cooled.
2Gig SdRam 400

(But i run a 32 bit system, and unknown with 64bit Computing issues.
I switch to 64 bit when Vista x64 comes out.)

Coud it be some Programs running in the background? like Norton AV, Norton AV consumes alot of memory, also windows defender does.

what res are you running with the settings all at max? cause i know i can not do that at all unless i want major lag. How can you do that on your hardware? lol i guess its driver related or x64xp?

i got no applications running except ati tray tools when i play games and even then i have 14-16processes running in the background when im gaming.

It could be F.e.a.r , or the drivers are not right coded for x64 Computing yet , i hope for U there wil be a new patch wich will correct this problem.

Same thing happened with gaming , in the time windows 95 came out , x16 (Win 3.11) games running bad on x32 Win 95, till after a few patches , for example this happens with the Wing -Commander game, can't recall it was W-C II or III.

Thats the reason i didn't upgrade my pc to x64 yet, i don't wan go that way anymore.

B.t.w. There is noting wrong with your hardware, it looks verry good and alot more powerfull then my system, how is gaming with other titles , like BF 2?

On bf2 i run it 1280x1024 all high with 4xAA and i get playable fps around 60-80, it'll drop alot lower if that freakin artillery hits lol.

So you suggest going back to windows xp x84? Are there any 64 drivers apart from ati's offical i can try out?

This is a known issue with FEAR and ATI AGP cards with 256Mb, the videocard runs out of local videoRAM and fps drop severely. You can temporarily fix the problem by just hitting escape and entering the game´s options menu (or alt-tabbing) and then returning back to the game, your fps should be up again (for the next few minutes....). AFAIK neither ATI nor Monolith have adressed this issue so far.

Here´s a more complete rundown of the problem:

curious

So if i understand well it's a catalist video driver issue wrong coded on 256 Agp cards?

And what about going back to earlier catalist drivers is that a possible solution?

My card is a pciexpress not agp but it is 256mb, it does seem this is happening. The temporarily fixes however do not work in f.e.a.r.

Switching back to older catalyst drivers doesn´t help at all...

AFAIK only AGP cards are affected, but since the FEAR engine itself is a major resource hog with framerates jumping up and down for no apparent reason, it may be hard to tell if it´s the videoRAM that´s causing the framedrops for you. If the options menu trick or alt-tabbing doesn´t fix it, then I highly doubt that this is the problem. We´re talking HUGE framedrops here, where fps plummet to the single digits where it used to be 60-80 fps.

And since most companies give a rats ass about singleplayer fixes nowadays and ATI cares more about the 1xxx series of cards, I think we have to stick with it... sad but true.
