Default Post A CPU for Absolute Morons

Ever hear a racist talk? Doesn't it make you uncomfortable? Doesn't it make you embarassed, as a fellow human being, to inhabit the same planet as said lowlife?

The P4 Celeron is kind of like that. It's a product so awful, so misguided -- so mindnumbingly STUPID that it makes me ashamed to be a human being.

Why would anyone EVER buy one of these processors? It's kind of like taking a Toyota Tercel, pulling off two of the wheels, writing --using a permanent Magic Marker-- "NISSAN SKYLINE" on it, and trying to sell it as something that can run with the Big Dogs.

Make it go away.

You play paintball Zardon? I've been playing for a few years, even have my certification as a ref in the N.P.P.L and W.P.F. Check out these pics from Skyball 2002 if you're interested.

P.S. I'm in one of the pics, try to guess which one.Skyball 20002

Huh , paintball? Yeah i've done that.....

But don't diss the Toyota Tercel. I got me a '94 (with all four wheels still on it thank you very much) and its still humming. Its got 150K miles on it too.... its seen all of the east coast and then some!!!! It might not out pace a ferrari... but where i live... we call this a quality car.

I'll be saddened to let it go.

^^
The above does not have anything to do with the celeron (which i think is a pos... but may find a place somewhere in the world... eventually).

lol

Oh sweet Jesus, Silentst2000, don't tell me you're serious. The Duron always has and always will make an absolute embarassment out of the Celeron. Even a 1.2GHz Duron can outpace this new 1.7GHz Celeron. If you're going to argue that the Duron is slower, you're braindead since that's contrary to fact.

Yeti: I have a a '92 Tercel. I like it a lot.

Probably never, since 2K2 is the last year they're making the Duron.

But you gotta remember, any Duron above 1GHz is a Morgan -- a derivative of the Palomino core. So what we have now technically are DuronXPs.

That's really interesting, Silenst2000. Maybe I was wrong! Maybe the Celeron 1.7GHz is competitive! After all, look at how well it performs in SYSMark2002!

But let's read on, shall we?

If you read on in Anand's article, you get a better feel for how awful this new Celeron is. In Mp3 encoding, the Duron 1.3GHz and the Celeron 1.7GHz are about equals. 3DSMAX benchmark? The Duron eats the Celeron alive. In fact, the new Willamette-based Celeron gets beaten by a Tualatin-based 1.2GHz Celeron. Not looking good. Under Maya we see much the same result. Under a heavily SSE2-optimized Lightwave benchmark? Yup, the Celeron still sucks. 3D gaming? The Duron beats the Celeron in every test.

So, let's see here... this new Celeron is beaten out by a 1.3GHz Duron in every benchmark Anand runs EXCEPT BapCo's SYSMark2002? Hmm... isn't that interesting?

Do me a favor, Silenst2000, pull this webpage up. And get a clue.

Basically Intel crippled the Celeron.

Celeron is a slow weak ass processor.

Normally I'd support any benchmark that showed AMD beating Intel. But.... just think about this, who in their right mind would use a Celeron, or a PIII, for rendering? It's a bit misleading thse bmarks. Anyone doing this seriously - e.g. commercially would be using a top end solution, be it x86, Sparc, or SG based. The economics don't come into it so much, as the marketing, politics & belief, and reliabillity.

There is a difference at the top of the chart in performance. Does this mean that any organisation rushes out to buy Athlons? Not if they have an existing investment in Intel hardwarem, unless the performance differential (e.g. increases profit) is sufficient to justify the tech refresh and pay for it. Chances are it won't.

For an organisation that depends on rendering performance that is about to upgrade, ignoring politics, they might calculate that the price differential, the rendering performance, and the effect on the forward order book, and choose an arhcitecture arccordingly.

Does anyone else find this EXTREMELY interesting? I mean, even if the celery is overclocked, how in the hell can it out perform the Athlon XP, or even for that matter, The Pentium 4 @ 1.7GHz? Can someone explain? AND, how can the P4 get a better score over the Athlon XP? Are you sure this website isn't Intel.com?

the celeron architecture is certainly not meant to compete with the superior architecture of the XP chip. the XP is, in many ways superior to the P4, the celerons daddy. comparing a celeron to an XP is not really a viable comparison !

Default Post come on guys

These numbers were based on one of the slower chipsets for intel processors, the i845d. The performance numbers on 845 based DDR systems are even slower than my P4X266 DDR system, so looking at these numbers isn't really a great representation of power, seen as they are comparing P4's medium range chipset to AMD's FASTEST chipset. For a fact I know that I bench much higher 1.7ghz bench numbers than the Jedi Knight 2 bench numbers, and with a lesser video card. I would have to say "take those benchmarks with a grain of crap" because they are definitely wrong (at least for the 1.7ghz P4 system numbers).

Anyway, A P4 celeron is just a cheap way to throw Duron out of the low end market. Even my Dad thinks that AMD's are poor performers and unreliable, and since he is like the rest of america, computer illiterate, I think Intel is pulling a very smart move.

Maybe the next processor from AMD shouldn't be called Opteron, maybe it should be called Inteleron, then maybe average computer-retarded consumers will by it on the false premise that it's an intel processor.

Did I tell you AMD gave a tour of their facilities to prospective buyers? (which reportedly was surprisingly underwhelming, they were invisioning cheap, but all they saw was a fat male prostitute chained to the wall, getting drilled in the rear by some priest with a thoroughbred processor in his mouth. weird)
