New OS, it's aggravating
I hate it, when you do a fresh install of windows and you have to install all those little programs and nifty things you installed in the last few months. You can't remember the name of all, but you know it isn't in your new install, because something is missing...
I installed Vista tonight, as my memory arrived today (2x2gb, along with a new cooler for my gfx card) and I'm seriously considering never to install a new OS again.
Too much of a hassle for me..

I know the feeling. It can easily take a whole evening getting things right, and the next day there's still some small piece missing that hits you in the face. Preparing helps of course and some of my favorite programs can fortunately be copied pretty much straight over, or come with a backup/restore functionality. Then there are always those few programs or drivers that are a chore to install or set up...
It'll feel better when you can relax and enjoy the new stuff.

Whenever I build a new system or reformat, I always tells myself to be ready to not have any fun for a couple of days. I also always tell myself before I format an OS drive to have ready on DVD all the programs that I will need, so that I don't have to re download them.
Even then, half the time I forget to do it or decide to not do it for some strange reason that makes sense at the time.
Just accept you can't win, and keep doing it.

I use an application called DriverMax, keeps all my drivers in one place (eg. memory stick) and installs them all at once so you can do away with CDs ect.
But yeah, installing applications is often a pain in the arse, that's why i keep a secondary HDD i don't format

The easiest way is to keep a copy of the entire system partition and restore it if needed

Use a godd*mn flash drive, you don't need an extra program. Just DL everything beforehand.
Or you could use an Ipod

heres what'cha do..
you get a USB flash drive... download what you need... and think you need, or what you later find out what you needed, to it.
keep it on hand for reinstalls or other installs or new oses..
that way you have everything on hand... you know what it's called if you want to check for updates and the works..
I was really waisting time with CD-R/DVD-R discs...... pain in the ass overall.... took longer to burn then it did to hot transfer to the usb drives..
my 8gb ocz rally is a top performer.

But then no one reads it.
Thats why most threads end up here or the off topic.
