Current rock music

Sucks..
Nothing like the "good 'Ol days"..
I may be getting older but I still have an ear for talent. I hear very little talent these days.
Nothing but blang-blang, whaa-whaa, throat-clearing crap..
Gee, wonder why the record companies don't make the money like they used to..

It's still around, just the popular stuff isn't it. I'm not too worried though, I see "rock" as a collection of all the rock music that's available. So what if good new bands aren't coming out at as great a rate as they used to? I've still got a long time before I finish my collection of older music.

There are a few bands,, IMO, that are pretty good.. Tool, Flyleaf, Evanescence, and Cheyelle's first cd, to name some off the top of my head.

most artists are forced to push out albums when they hit major record labels (the suff you see in stores and hear on the radio). They make one decent song and ride on it for the rest of the album. There are good bands out there in rock and metal alike, your just not looking hard enough.

these days the market is soooo flooded with manufactured crap you really do have to go actively looking for decent music. But there is plenty of it (in every genre) out there , if you look properly.
I find I wince lots if I put some crap like Kerang on the TV

For example?
Where would one go to look?
But then again, you shouldn't have to "look hard".. You didn't used to have to,just turned on the radio and there ya go. Maybe I should have titled the thread as The rock played on radio and tv is crap.. Compared to the "classic" rock this stuff is crap.
I listen to the radio, more or less, 9 to 10 hours a day at my employment. Mostly talkradio but I do scan the music stations. I try to listen to the current rock stations but switch over to the classical rock and usually stay, depending on the tune..
Here's one for ya,, name 5 songs of the current bands that you think they'll be playing on "classic rock" stations in the future..

Congrats you've just revealed yourself to be an old fart. Every generation dislikes the next generations music and it gets worse as you get older. Accept this and move on, maybe even be a little more open minded and you'll appreciate some modern day music.

Where could you start? Well, I've found it hard to keep up with new music I like.

I'd say you can start at iTunes (yep thats right). What I usually do is look up the bands I do like the then click on what I would think is their best album. If you look over to the right (this is in their music store btw) it has a list of about the 5 top albums that people who bought the album you like bought.

if that makes sense. Just go into the iTunes music store search for one of you favorite albums and or bands then look in the column where it said listeners also bought. Check out the albums and listen to the samples of that artists top rated songs and see if its right for you.

While its not a complete solution to your problems, its a good place to start.

Sometimes I take a chance on new bands and feel disgusted when I buy a crappy cd. Mastodon...eck. But that is a risk you have to take sometimes. Also go with what people who know you recommend and search info on that than go from there.

As far as classic rock goes, no one makes it anymore. Rock nowadays is classified as new rock. Metal is different though. There are so many types of metal its almost mind blowing.

You have to find whats right for you if you do like metal. There are some pretty talent metal bands out there and I understand listeners of classic rock are not used to the growling and probably will never get adjusted to it. Most the metal bands that sing sound really gay and really 80's though. aka power metal, dragon force, rhapsody. A lot of good metal bands have a great deal of singing and growling, but its not the type of growling that has no rythm or purpose (death metal).

I was raised on classic rock the began my early teens on Metallica. Now I listen to classic rock and most types of metal.

Stay away from punk (American Punk especially) it sucks. Stay away from emo. Stay away from hardcore (usually has no rythm or talent to be found but there are a few good bands in there). Stay away from Death Metal (no rythm, horrible singing with no talent).

I'd say if you want to check out metal at all then start off with Metal, metalcore, Melodic death metal.

If not and yo u want to stay with rock, I'm afraid your goin to have to settle with new rock. There has not been a band yet that has created classic rock in this era or decade.

ok... im 18 but i share the same thought.. i guess im getting old too then...
Most, let me repeat, Most music just plain sucks... there are some songs i do like, but that is very rarely the case. But on the other hand.. i like some metal, some of the new rock mentioned..
i advice to OnDborder, if you got a computer on your work, go to Wolffm.com (this is the only online american webradio i know that plays 70,80 and 90ies rock music)

What kind of metal? (specifically what bands). Perhaps I can recommend something.

All of you are too old... There is tons of great rock and metal out there. Actually, MUCH better than all of the old "famous" groups of old.

New music FTW!

Ouch, would have to disagree with you there man.

Nothing nowadays has topped original classical music, old jazz/blues, and classic rock. Most bands nowadays show skill not talent, originality, or creativity. And if they do it is usually one or two members of the band carrying the rest instead of all of them bringing something to the table.

Well this all depends on your tastes. I simply can't stand anything older than 1990... It just sounds nasty, I fail to see the so called "talent". And for me, again no creativity or originality from the old guys.

But again, all depends on your social background, your age, your everything!
