Advertisements annoying you?

Some people dislike the advertisements on our site, and some even block them and still complain. This central thread will answer all your questions without more people posting "I hate the ads, can we remove them please?"

I think its time for some education on the subject.

When I first started this site it ran on a shared server with no ads as I was always very against advertisements. so this site ran for 6 months without a single advertisement and I hoped the members would donate on a regular basis. However as the site expanded at a massive rate over the following year we moved hosting several times and in 2005 we are now on a multiple dedicated server platform on several 100mbit lines. We average over 6 million hits each month. Our files like drivercleaner have received over 3 million downloads.

So, why do we have them at all, after all shouldnt I just pay for everything myself? mmm ..............

Driverheaven currently has two of the following servers:

Dual Xeon 3ghz x2
4 gig of ram
73 gig x 2 SCSI
100mbit pipe
powered by Linux.

and one :

Pentium 4 2.8ghz
2 gig of ram
36 gig Scsi
20mbit pipe
powered by linux

As you would guess running these servers and dealing with over 3 terrabytes of data transfer each month isnt a $5 experience, and over the last year we have tried several packages to enhance income, one of these being intellitxt which is a massive revenue maker, unfortunately as this is run outside our server network, if intellitxt servers are running slow so are the sites. After trying this for several months and handling complaints I removed it. Why did I remove it if its such a good revenue maker? after all arent all the flash ads more annoying? No I dont think they are, they dont slow the site loading as they are on our own servers, they arent checking a database to get keywords and links. I removed them because they were interferring with your Driverheaven experience.

So now you have a choice, you can support this site, visit our advertisers who are the highest quality tech based companies you can find on the internet, they wont install spyware on your machine, they wont take over your browser nor will they be offering "a hot escort service in your area". They are all related to this website in some way offering the best deals we can get you guys. We recently opened www.driverheavendownloads.net which in the first few weeks has served over a terrabyte of free downloads. You dont have to visit our sponsors either or click 3 full page ads like the millions of other download sites on the net to get to the file either, ever noticed that? You cant find Catalyst 5.7 Classic ? then click the ATI page, and then the file and its yours. You want omega's last driver set? then click the omega logo and the download link, its yours. No, you dont need to visit a gay chat dating site or a spyware infested software companies webpage to get the file either.

You have of course another alternative, a selfish alternative which no one will stop you from taking:

1: block the ads
2: dont click the links
3: dont donate

And enjoy the free ride, after all we all love a free ride right? But while you are doing this just remember one thing, Driverheaven isnt a corporation, I dont have any backing outside the advertisements we run, and if everyone blocks these ads, and gives nothing back to this site then over a period of time it will no longer be here.

So next time you want to post in the feedback section about the fact your CPU usage is going up from 2% to 10% or you dont like the colours of the new ATI flash ad, remember one thing, most likely I dont either, but I feel most of you guys want this site to remain up, you want the latest news, great programs like drivercleaner, hot competitions and fast downloads.
