System Specs

I'd like to thank DH for fixing the speed...

But actually, the praise belongs to NTL

After frequent complaints that the Poplar proxy pool was no delivering decent throughput on the recent speed increases, it was found that the maxium RWIN used by these Netapp netcaches was only around 17000 - inadequate for transatlantic delays. With the forced transparent proxy (parasitic on port 80), the only way to avoid their flawed proxies is to specify another that is NOT port 80 - hence the NTL "proxy dance" as you flit between your and other area proxies to find one that works right.

An increase to 70080 brought considerable relief, and better performance even at the lower speeds.

Anyone else on NTLWORLD, I hope they roll this out quickly wherever needed.

I always said it was a terrible path, looks like I was right!

One day I might leave this joke ISP, but most of it works most of the time, though there is rarely 100% of it working 100% satisfactorily - the proxies being a constant running sore of malfunctions, the usual reason for "can't get to a site" when everyone else says it's fine.

As i said to you before, ive never had an issue with NTLWORLD and this site. however I use a different route to connect, via ireland. ive heard some of the mainland setups are appalling, glad im not there.

NTL's always been spot on for me.

I've only had one outage in 4 years, and it was my fault the cable connector had come loose, i fixed it myself, but they sent an engineer anyway, who talked me through all the technical side of the analyse they carry out and signal levels, fitted an attenuator to the cable to lower one of the signals and was a really cool guy.
