Default Post Ahhh! Pop-ups!

I type in driverheaven.net into my address bar in internet explorer...I wait for the long load for the main page to come up...I see a few new ads on the page, then all of a sudden.

POP UP AD!

Please no...I don't want to stop going to this website as well...or I might just block the ads with my proxomitron...but still! This is one of the few major sites I haven't had to guard my privacy and/or my sanity from. Please no pop-ups!

Default Post No pop-ups!

As far as I know, one of our biggest goals as a site is to AVOID the need for pop-ups! Please donate or click on our sponsors once in a while, it really helps!

I tried one pop under for a short while to try and raise revenue for hosting but as far as I know it was removed due to some issues. I frequently turn DOWN alot of advertising due to the unpleasant way its handled which is intrusive on the forum.

The reason I put advertising at all on the forum was due to a lack of donations, running a dedicated T3 server with the amount of bandwidth we consume a month isnt inexpensive. half a million hits a day (sometimes almost 1,000,000 hits a day) and between 200 gig and 400 gig a month of bandwidth. I am against advertising and all that goes with it. Do you think I like seeing flashing gifs on Driverheaven? it was a last resort.

And here is a little food for thought, have any of you people complaining donated even a dollar to the running of this site in the last 3 months? the place you are saying you love so much? If you have, thank you, and if you havent, well I dont think you have any place to complain about seeing ads. In fact apart from a few people, no one has donated anything in the last 6 or 7 weeks.

Until even a small percentage of members start helping more financially, advertising is necessary to the running and upkeep of this site.

click some banners if you can, it all helps.

I consider this matter closed.

It's like voting, people. If you don't vote, you don't get to bitch.

*grin*

Z's not kidding though - he definitely agonized over ads for a long time, it just frankly reached a point where there wasn't any choice.
